We started off in relatively fine weather again today which quickly turned to rain and continued all the way though Pennsylvania and part of New York, then strangely enough it fined up again.
And they talk about Melbourne weather!!!
We drove on through scenic little towns and green mountains then stopped at a truck stop for a drink. While we were there a man walked in wearing a pistol on his hip, and no, he wasn't a police officer. We got a little way down the road from there and there was an old man driving his ride-on mower up the street with a shotgun draped across his lap. We are definitely in a different world!
On the highway we saw a sign for the National Soaring museum so of course we had to stop for that. It was up a large hill and situated in a building on a gliding airfield that ran towards the end of the hill. The gliders would be able to take off and catch the lift from the hill and then probably carry on towards the nearby mountains.
The museum just had lots of old gliders and a couple of more recent ones, and a very large gift shop of course!
We eventually arrived at the beautiful old house in Niagara falls where we have an apartment that has been newly renovated. It's very nicely done and has retained a lot of the original features.
We went for a walk along the river front to see the falls which are only about half an hours walk from the house but the main observation deck had closed already so we walked around the edge of the falls and then crossed over onto Goat island to see the Canadian side which is a little more spectacular. The constant mist does make it a bit hard to see them properly though.
We will go and do the Maid of the mist boat thing tomorrow and perhaps take a helicopter flight over them.
