Nick was being lazy this morning then in the evening had planned to meet up with his mate Kurt in New Jersey so Marnee and I had a day to be ladies of leisure.
We got up and ready then headed round the corner to McDonalds for a quick breakfast. Then we jumped on the subway; my plan was to go and pick up my camera from the repair shop while Marnee ran round trying to find us tickets to a Broadway show for tonight. We were on the train when I realised I’d forgotten the slip for the camera shop so got off at the next stop and went to get that while Marnee continued in the direction of times square.
I went back to the hotel, collect the stub and got back on the train to pick up my camera. When I arrived the camera was fixed so that was a major relief. I messaged Marnee to see where she was at and she’d already been to three different theatres to find different tickets but most were sold out but got some for a show called ‘If/Then’. She had just finished so was heading toward where I was so went and spent some time looking in DSW while I waited. Eventually Marnee made it, I bought a super cute pair of Adidas hightops then we headed up the road further to look in some other shops like Victoria’s Secret. Eventually we started to tire of the shops so jumped on the subway (which we spotted very movie like rats in) in the direction of Katz's Delicatessen; New York’s most famous Deli. Id visited the day before on the photography tour but wasn’t hungry at the time. We waited in line but then got in there and decided we didn’t want to spend US$14 on a sandwich that we may not even like so went down the road a few shops to get some pizza at Famous Rays Original Pizza. We had our giant slices there before slowly heading in the direction of central park. On the way though, we stopped off at a very cool little bar called Boulton and Watt. Boulton and Watt is a cute little gastro pub with cast-iron fixtures & old machinery offering American classics & creative cocktails. We got a cocktail each and sat at a table overlooking the street and took in the fact that we were sitting in one of, if not the greatest city in the world. From there we stopped in at a few more shops before walking up to meet Marnee’s friend Mark for a hot chocolate at a little place called Koffeecake Corner.
Koffeecake Corner is an airy coffee, smoothie & juice counter with floor-to-ceiling windows & communal tables. I got a salted caramel hot chocolate and it was delightful; very sweet though. After our hot chocolates and brief catch up we headed across the middle of Central Park back in the direction of our hotel to shower and get dressed to go for our Broadway show.
If/Then was playing at Richard Rodgers Theatre on West 96
th Street. If/Then is about starting over and the courage to fully explore life and the consequences of decisions. Elizabeth (played by Idina Menzel) has moved back to New York, nearing 40, she wants to start afresh and reboot her career as an urban planner. One day, following a peculiar experience in the park, she finds her future splitting into two: Liz and Beth. Liz seeks out new experiences and soon finds love with the dashing army doctor Josh. But what happens when everything isn't quite happy ever after? Beth takes a different approach, and the chaos of life affects her all at once, but then, how can we regret truly living?
What a fantastic show it was, kind of similar to the movie sliding doors, but more enjoyable. After the show we headed back up to Times Square then decided to head down to the bar Jakes Dilemma for some drinks and a late dinner.
We ordered drinks and some nachos and fries to share and stayed her for quite a while before calling it a night and heading back to the hotel.
