We were up bright and early Thursday morning, as we‘re being picked up for our trip to Woodbury Common. A premium outlet centre located upstate NY in Central Valley, that has a Disney discount store. The traffic out of town was quite good as we travelled along Sully’s landing strip aka the Hudson River. It wasn’t to long and we were surrounded by National Parks. The tree leaves were starting to change colour and looked beautiful. We had 6 hours to shop and with map in hand we were off. After 5 hours and 30 mins we were shopped out (OK the Credit Cards weren‘t going to work anymore) I always knew this would be a budget blower for us. Mittwoch und Donnerstag, 23. und 24.08.2017: Zwei volle Tage New York volles Programm! Wir hatten den New York City Pass für diese zwei Tage und deshalb haben wir untertags das volle Touriprogramm durchgezogen. Am ersten Tag gehörte dazu eine Hop on Hop off Tour mit einem Doppeldecker-Bus, ein Rundumblick über Manhattan vom obersten Stock des Rockefeller Centers und eine weitere Bustour: „the Ride“ – hier saßen wir quer zur Fahrtrichtung und die Buswand war komplett aus Glas, so dass wir den ganzen New Yorkern am Gehsteig zuwinken und deren liebenswürdige Antwortgesten beobachten konnten. Das Besondere an dieser Tour war, dass immer mal wieder an einer Straßenecke dazugehörige Schauspieler, TänzerInnen, MusikerInnen oder Rapper etwas für uns aufführten. We kept the curtains open overnight as it is not very often that the view whilst you are laying in your bed is of something as dramatic and iconic as the Empire State Building. Even with the windows shut, there is still all the car horns, sirens and general Manhattan noises to content with. I made a second attempt to get to Brooklyn and all went well. After the trauma of yesterday the right train arrived almost immediately and went straight to where I wanted to do, so I was there in under half an hour. There seemed to be more people sleeping on the train than actually traveling on it, but I suppose going round-and-round on the train overnight is better than the streets. Samedi, c'est notre dernier jour à New York, les réveils sont un peu plus difficiles et les jambes sont lourdes. Le temps est couvert sur Manhattan, on quitte l’hôtel pour aller prendre le métro, direction Central Park et le muséum d'histoire naturelle. On arrive juste à l'ouverture, et on entre, un peu perdu face à l'immensité du lieu. On prend la première galerie au hasard, ce sont les grands animaux d'Afrique. Chacun d'eux est mis en scène dans une reproduction de son habitat naturel. Les décors sont vraiment de tout beauté. C'est aussi le même principe pour le domaine des océans, avec en prime, une reproduction grandeur réelle d'une baleine bleue, flottant au dessus des têtes dans un hall immense. Après le voyage de la veille, la nuit a été la bienvenue, mais décalage horaire étant, tout le monde est réveillé à sept heures. Comme on a rien pour le petit déjeuner, on décide de partir de bonne heure à l'assaut de midtown. La 7th avenue est plus calme que la veille au soir. On croise des new-yorkais pressés, en train de téléphoner, un café dans la main, et des touristes qui arpentent l'avenue, appareil photo en bandoulière. Notre petit déjeuner se composera ce matin de deux donuts et deux cafés américains très sucrés, avalés rapidement en marchant. Il fait très beau aujourd'hui, et on distingue déjà l'Empire State Building et sa flèche au soleil.
