The Park
A View of Central Park from the Rockefeller Centre. Manhattan Awaits
Another great day in Manhattan awaits us as we travel by subway into Times Square and head to the Rockefeller centre, the view from the top is amazing, we are loving this city! We then head down to the 9/11 memorial, there is a queue at the entrance and because we have our NYC card (definitely worth the money we paid for them) we fast track to the VIP entrance. We book into see the Reflection Pools and visit the 9/11 Museum first, the Museum is heart breaking, we can still remember the day the attacks took place and to see the memorials, letters children have written to there parents, parents to thier children, wives to husbands, husbands to wives, friends and work colleagues, it's heart breaking and one such account stood out and made me cry, a husband ringing his wife from one of the planes that had been hijacked brought me to tears, I wanted to walk out, but how could I knowing that so many people have to live with the sadness of losing a loved one everyday, the thousands of faces of those who lost their lives that day looking out at you
Venting
Smoke venting from the underground from pictures on the walls, a contrast of feelings of anger and sorrow swell up inside, even Steve has tears in his eyes. How hard must it be for those directly effected by this terrible and sensseless act of terrorism to continue with there lives, but somehow they find the strength to and I admire that strength. We as Australians may joke about the what seems to be the over the top patriatism of the the Americans, but here, standing in this Musuem, I can feel it.
We decide to have some lunch before our walk through to the Reflection Pools, we have some Pizza and after a short stroll, we stand in line for our tour, as we are standing in line, Steve tells me to look at the roof of the building beside us, there is a photo shoot going on of a woman in her underwear doing some quiet provocative poses, a young man standing in front of us is also looking, he turns to us, with a smile on his face, and says “so you see it too” we all start to laugh! We walk around a fence that is guarding the new building which is
still in progress, to replace the twin towers, it is amazing, we now step into the entrance and can hear the water in the Reflection Pools, we head over to have a look, its amazing, there are park benches and trees scattered around them, a serene place for people to come and reflect, they have done an amazing job. We loved it.
Now were off to Madame Tussauds in Times Square to meet some famous celebrities, it was great, although some didn't look quite life like, but some were quite amazing. There was a wax figure of a man with blood on him holding like an axe near a doorway, I walked over to the curtain where it was and the bloody figure came to life, I have never screamed so loud, my heart was thumping in my chest, Steve was roaring with laughter, "not funny Steve", we make our way through the curtain, well that was a big mistake, I was so scared I was hiding behind Steve holding on to his shirt with my face nuzzled into his back and my eyes shut, with two young girls behind us screaming, when we got out we all just
stood there laughing! decide to have a look through Ripley's Believe It or Not next door, it was very interesting, a little dated, but it was good. We now wander around Times Square, and enjoy the atmosphere of the people, did I tell you I love New York City! We head back to our Hotel via the subway, we love being tourists! Weather....... beautiful!
