Statue of Liberty
Window in the Crown
This has been a very tiring day.
The night was very lively with thunderstorms crashing all around Manhattan.
Very misty but eventually it cleared a little.
After breakfast, an underground trip down to the trade centre (ground zero} then on to battery park.
A moment of panic when we discovered that we both needed photo id. Locked safely in the hotel safe box.
After an extensive security search we were on our way to the statue of liberty.
A talk to a friendly ranger along with my photo driving licence allowed us in.
After 310 steps we were at the crown of the statue.
Very clastrophobic but what a view.
Then on to ellis island. I felt this was sad last time I was there and my opinion has not changed.
Then back to Manhatten.
We decided to walk back to our hotel but could not miss stopping to look at ground zero progress. The hole in the ground is now a building in progress several hundred feet high.
Must come back when it is finished.
The walk to the hotel was long and very tiring. Had a nice meal at the hotel.
has not really happened here yet but is just begininng.
Tomorrow we go around a museum and climb the Empire state building.
Forgot to say we can here train whistles from Penn station and they echo around the city,
