My day started off in a fabulously stylish greasy diner at 10:00 a.m. when I spied out of the corner of my eye a very handsome diner...as I drank my fabulously strong coffee I noticed that he was nursing a glass of white wine...Chardonnay no doubt, to complement his eggs and toast. As the music in the restaurant became more vibrant, he stood up and started wandering around the restaurant, glass in hand, singing and swaying to the music. I could have sworn that the old woman next to me uttered, "I'll have what he's having!" but not sure at the moment.
Too many highlights to consider although I particularly enjoyed watching an entire family jump out of one cab and into another...pursued by the first driver who leapt onto the second driver's door and proceeded to scream at the family. Taxi's may somehow become a metaphor of my experiences here.
I am totally intimidated by the school I am about to attend. Alumnae photos and posters were strung here and there and one of the classrooms is actually named, "The Marilyn Monroe Room"...I had just read in Strasberg's autobiography, how everyone was spellbound by her work in the studio and that the titillating image of the stargirl was quickly replaced by admiration and respect for her acting ability. This school means business...if you are ten minutes late for class you have to get a late slip. If you are twenty minutes late, you are not allowed entry into the classroom. Considering the labryinth of passageways, I know I'm in trouble! But I like their old-school approach...it'll be interesting to see who my classmates are and what they are going to think when this 51 year old blind and deaf toothpick walks in the room! It was probably a terrible idea for me to go and see a show on Broadway tonight..."Memphis"....the Best Musical Tony winner for this year...I was awestruck by the talent on stage and the energy of the show...Broadway really is unique. However, after the show, I remembered why I was here and I became quite frightened of my first class this coming Friday. Thank goodness for Atavin!
