Edit Blog Post
Well here it is, my first blog entry for this epic journey of mine, apologies for my tardiness but its hard work sightseeing and getting on it!!
Day 1 was hardcore to say the least, we landed at around 1ish last wednesday and managed to get checked into our hotel and down to an irish pub before the footie started. We had planned to just go down there for a couple whilst the football was on but the gents behind the bar were very persuasive and 8pints and 6hrs later we stumbled back to the hotel for the night!! Met some sound new yorkers who gave us some good tips of places 2go drinking whilst we were there which of course we took!!
Our hotel in New York looked luvly online, very clean and reasonably priced and the location was good being just off 5th avenue.....however in reality this was not the case, yes it was clean but the actual room was abit of a hole and i didnt expect to be waliking half way round the place just to go for a shower! on the plus side tho the air con was so loud it nearly drowned
out robs bear like snoring!!
Day 2 was an early one partly due to jet lag and partly down to the early night after the drinking session!! Never before have i been wide awake, showered and eager to start the day at 7 in the morning!! as we were both ready for action we decided that this day would be all about sightseeing. We started off at Empire State building (had to wait for it to open as we got there about half 7!!), took the tour upto the 86th floor and had a real good view of Nyc and all its sights, even tho it was bit cloudy u can still see for miles. from there we took a short walk over to Madison Square garden and then took a very long walk up to Central park, which i might add is massive!! we had a quick look round Strawberry fields for the Lennon memorial then headed out towards Ground Zero. Upon trying to get a taxi we stumbled across Hooters and thought it would be rude if we didnt check it out!! $50 lunch is abit much but the scenery wasnt bad!! Ground Zero was a strange
place full of mixed emotions, im sure a few years ago it probably wud of stirred a few more but right now its a building site, thats all i can say really. From there we headed down to battery park for a statue of liberty tour, very nice but not as big as i expected! we then headed back to the hotel as we were both crippled and needed a rest, found wall street and just strolled down broadway for abit.
That night we hit a place called Ludlow off Stanton which was suggested by the guys we met on the 1st day. Here we learnt a valuable lesson of never go out drinking in America without ur ID, they dont care who u r or where ur from, no ID no drinky! so taxi back to the hotel then taxi back to the bar and $3O later we are ready for a drink, never ask for a double out here as they free pour and a pint of jack daniels and a dash of coke is abit much for ur first drink!! good night down there tho as its mainly new yorkers and not many tourists.
On
the friday we decided to have a chilled one as the sightseeing and mayb abit of the drinking had taken its toll. We went to watch the expendables which was an experience on its own, the americans love it and are very vocal during the film, dunno what they were all talking about as the films rubbish but all the yanks kept us entertained!!
That night we hit the meat packing district which was also recommended. this seems to be where all the posh new yorkers go out to drink as there was alot of tasty motors and blokes in chinos and deck shoes!! Somehow blagged ourselves into a posh club and got hammered, note to self do not buy $250 bottles of champagne on a travellers budget....very silly!! Goodnight was had tho and its all part of the NYC experience 😊
We woke up on the sat and we were both feeling a bit ropey so we thought it would be a good idea to go to the irish pub from the 1st day to get a fry up and watch the footy as the season had just started. This proved not to be a great idea
as 2 games and 9 pints later we rolled out of the pub to go get ready and go out. This was not our intentions as we had to leave nyc on the sunday to go to boston but you know what us boys are like so we ended up then going out to a place called bleeker street which was a long street of bars that played live music ect .This was where we got introduced to a drinking game called Beer pong. For those that dont know what it is, its basically just throwing ping pong balls into cups filled with beer and if your opponent gets one in your cup you have to down it. We played it all night and got extreamly wasted. All in all this was the best night we had out in nyc , i would defo recomend bleeker street to anyone that goes there , was alot more chilled out and relaxed than the other places we went and had a better mix of people that were all real friendly and up for partying .
Sunday morning was a absolute chore as we had to get out of room and get
a 5 hour coach to boston on a hangover so we went to the pub to have some food and watch the gooners scrape a draw and only had orange juices to drink for the 1st time on our trip. Whilst waiting for the bus i had my first experience of torture in the form of a small chinesse boy stuck on repeat...water water one dollar.....water water one dollar!! after 10 minutes of this constantly i was nearly ready to kill!!
So to summarise NYC, i can confirm that its a city that never sleeps as we didnt get much, ths sights and sounds of the place are epic and so are the prices!! Loved it but by the end was happy to leave.
So there you have the first chapter of my travels, been in Boston for a few days now and we r both loving the more chilled out vibe but there will more of that in the next chapter.
im off to get back in bed as this current hangover is a killer, peaceout till next time
oh and apologies for the pics being in no order at all but its just taken
me nearly 2hrs to upload em so there staying in that order!!
