A need for sleep and a cloudy morning sees us all sleep in. Take aways from Bagel Express and a Black and White Cookie for the backpack snack stash.
We walk up 5th Ave and duck in and out of shops. Every brand you can think of (and some I'm never heard of) are on this street. We check out the Adidas and Vans Shop and the girls continue their Sephora search. Again to no avail.
We visit the famous toy shop from the movies BIG and Elf. Jules and Milla dance on the massive piano. The toy shop is adjacent to Rockefeller Centre - the Christmas Tree and the ice skating rink - from Elf and Hawkeye!
We snub Trump Tower (he's not our guy) and head for Tiffany's. Unfortunately it's under renovation and the store isn't as impressive as expected. We still browse the various floors of everything Tiffany. They even have Tiffany ping pong bats!
One of the Tiffany's many associates is impressed with Deaks Passport sweater and suggests that if he likes that style, he should check out Bergdorf Goodman Level 3 - across the street next to Luis Vuitton and Armani! It
turns out to be a department store and Level 3 is full of the big names of fashion. Some very cool designers here and Deaks is in his element. I still can't see the value in $3,000 jackets and $1,000 sneakers. There are so many staff waiting to serve/shop for the high end clients. Their instincts correctly identify that we aren't there to buy.
The misty rain makes Central Park a sub optimal idea. We've already waited too long for our first hot dog and we cave in to the temptation. It's all about the experience and definitely not about the food. We carry our lunch into Central Park for a taste of the iconic public space. It's another familiar location and we're hoping we can get back for a more thorough exploration before we leave NYC.
MOMA - Museum of Modern Art - is a few blocks down 5th Ave and a welcome haven from the cold rainy weather. Kids 16 and under are free and Deaks is now 16.
The art spans the last 200 years and there are so big name European artists - Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, Dahli and some really cool
more modern paintings and installations. We spend the good part of 4 hours wandering the various floors but barely scratch the surface. There's a Guillermo del Toros Pinnochio installation that outlines how the stop motion film was made - truly impressive and it has us desperate to watch the film.
The MOMA design shop across from the museum has so many amazing designs and a piano by the door. While we're browsing, a pair of customers sit at the piano and play the song from the movie BIG!
Back down Lexington Ave in the drizzle and we find a phone, ID and credit cards on the road outside Grand Central Station. Can't just leave it there and we are directed to Lost & Found in the bowels of GCT near track 100. Yes! Track 100!!
Another visit to GCT markets and we've got lasagna, mac & cheese and pasta for dinner. Paired with a massive can of Asahi and some Reese's pieces has us set up for an awesome night in.
