Christmas bells are ringing, and it's time to get out and into New York to enjoy its culture and experience all that the city has to offer.
There are so many good reasons to come to New York during the holiday season. The city lights up at this time like no other time in the year. With so much choice for families and adults alike, you must plan your trip. Here are my top 5 picks on what to see and where to go if you are visiting New York during this holiday season.
1. Accommodation at the Westgate New York Grand Central Hotel
The Westgate New York Grand Central Hotel, built in 193, is ideally located in Manhattan's historic Tudor City and only a stone's throw away from the Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station.
It boasts a 23 floor, 300 room hotel with everything you would expect of a high-quality New York hotel. The Westgate New York Grand Central Hotel has valet parking, in-room services spacious lounged, bars and restaurants.
Get out and about from here is easy, and the staff are incredibly helpful.
The hotel is casual enough that you can relax and escape
the busy New York streets, but near enough that you can take it all in at your own pace.
Teach room has been designed with comfort in mind as well as space, with several having a quiet balcony, you can step out on to.
Enjoy good food at a reasonable price at the Tudor City Marketplace and bar and then stroll down to your favourite exhibition or event.
2. The Ride Experience
Once you are settled into your hotel, it's time to hit the streets.
A great place to start is something known as
The Ride Experience. The Ride experience is both entertaining and somewhat unique in New York.
The Ride is available at any time of the year, but from now until January you can enjoy this holiday experience through the lens of Christmas.
What is it? The Ride is a motorcoach complete with theater-style seating, big windows and beautiful lights that will transport you around New York, enjoying all of the colour and excitement that this city turns on at Christmas.
From live street performers to beautifully lit trees, there is so much visual candy to enjoy. From rappers to country
music, The Ride lets you get a taste of the city, without being overwhelmed and is a great way to start your new York adventure.
3. Lumino City
Often described as a glowing wonderland at Christmas, this is a city where the lights never seem to go out. If that's your thing, then Lumino City is a place worth visiting.
Lumino City is a light festival on Randall's island and goes from late November to early January. It's 12 acres of glowing fairy tales and wonderland, and you are going to want to take a camera.
There is the luminescent donut tunnel, a 22 foot high technicolour Christmas tree, the mushroom forest and candy mountain which is surrounded by a field of rainbows, all reminiscent of a Willie Wonka adventure.
4. The Rockettes at Radio City
The Rockettes are almost an institution in themselves these days, and Radio City really turn up the dial during the holiday season offering some of the best shows of the year.
From singing to ice skating and a 3D cinema experiences and, yes, the possibility of watching A Chorus Line, Radio City Hall is a truly amazing
experience.
If you want to discover why the Rockettes are known around the world, come and see for yourself!
You can
book your night at Radio City Music Hall through Get Your Guide.
5. Ice skating at Bryant Park, New York
What would New York (or any film ever made about New York) be without its iconic ice skating rink in Bryant Park? This picturesque venue is excellent for families. It sits amidst the public Library and the black and gold facade of the American Radiator Building, providing a striking scene for those on and off the rink.
Over Christmas, you also get to enjoy the Winter Village, a massive and brightly decorated Christmas tree as well as the tasty food and beverage kiosks.
It's a great way to unwind on a quiet evening, whiles still enjoying the new York buzz, pop and fizz as the city whirls and swirls around you.
A few other things worth visiting in my mind would be the performance of the Nutcracker Sweet by the New York City Ballet Company at Lincoln theater. There is also the New York City Philharmonic orchestra which can be seen and heard at both the Opera House and Geffen Hall.
Not to be missed would be a trip out to see The Rockefeller Christmas Tree (One of New York's most widely acclaimed Christmas displays)
The Rockefeller Christmas Tree is something the even the locals will turn out for. In addition to the official ceremony where the lights are turned on, there is the inspiring decorations and artwork, not to mention the architecture that surrounds the must-see New York icon.
