Hello to everyone!!
Well, its hard to believe, but I'm sitting here writing this entry with just one day left until I get on a plane and head over to Thailand to start this adventure of a lifetime. If there's one thing I know for sure about this trip, its that I am definitely not looking forward to a 21 hour plane ride. Sunday, January 1
st 2012 - NYC to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Bangkok.
Since I moved back home fourweeks ago I've had a lot of time to think, and it dawned on me just how much of an adventure it has already been. Some say its reckless. Some have called it ballsy. I say its what life is all about. What started as an idea back in June has now come full force to a reality where I quit my job and bought a one-way ticket to Asia with no idea of what lays ahead. The plan is rough, but definitely not dry. The time limit - it's open ended. Travel through Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia seeing everything each country has to offer, and venture on to anywhere else my mind takes
me.
Some of you are probably reading this at your office desk while sipping down your second or even third cup of coffee wondering how I can afford to do this. The truth is, you too can quit your job and venture out to the other side of the world. It just takes some planning, patience and whole lot of budgeting. I'm not going to bore you with all the details that went into the preparation for this trip, but I can tell you, that its not as spontaneous as some of you may believe. Research does have to be done if you want to stay safe, and healthy.
Am I scared? - Yes
Am I anxious? - Yes
Am I excited? - Hell yes
Am I crazy? - Probably a bit
Its been a great month living back at home with my family in Rockaway. Thank you mom, thank you dad, and thank you Sharon for all supporting me over the past 25 years in everything I've done. I'll try my best not to give the three of you heart-attacks while I'm gone.
Thank you everyone for a great sendoff over the past month. The
past three weeks really have felt like a never-ending celebration. Its an amazing feeling to know I truly have some great friends.
Without a doubt, I look forward to the day when one of you, friends or family, comes and tells me.... “Nate, I quit my job – I'm going to travel the world”.
Until then, enjoy living vicariously through my pictures and stories.
Much love to all of you,
Nate
