On the Road to NYOn the Road to NYOn the Road to NY

Through Adirondack Park
We Left home early on a winter's morning and followed a quiet road through Adirondack park down to New York City. The sunrise reflecting off of the ice on the trees was a huge contrast to what was to come. I felt a bit like Pa Kettle going to the big city when it took me a minute to figure out how to open the coffee lid, or to work the motion detector controlled paper dispensers - At Grand Central Station I almost put cheese in the coffee instead of creamer!

The first night out we stayed in Kingston, a historical town with covered sidewalks and an old senate building so that we could drive through New York early Sunday morning before anyone woke up. Since we were to stay in Brooklyn we drove over the George Washington Bridge and through the FDR Tunnel.

Staying in Brooklyn we were only a few minutes by subway from lower Manhatten, we could park for free, and the hotel was cheaper. After dropping off our bags we headed out to learn how to use the subway (bought a 1 week metro pass and got a free map) and we benefitted from many

Some of the scenery on the way
friendly people and the directions they gave us. First stop was Macy's to watch the Jets playoff game at Macy's Bar and Grill in the basement - a perfect place to wait while wives are shopping.

Best thing to do in NY - breakfast - the city is dotted with perfect places for 2 eggs over easy, brown toast and sausage.
Duan thought it was all about the shopping! We went to Times Square for a Hot Dog and Mary Poppins Broadway shoe, to the UN to see what goes on, to touch the bull on Wall Street and the old Trinity church. And Yep! we went to the Gugginheim, stopped at Trump Tower for a purse and a taxi to the Top of the Rock to see the city from 70 stories up

Hockey tickets for the Rangers were $200.00 each, so we took the LIRR to Nassau for NYI vs OV and Washington for $40.00. On the way home we stopped in Glenns Falls Hockey to see the Binghamton Senators play - fantastic hockey atmosphere!personal.
