Statue of Liberty
Good Old Mrs Liberty I recently went to New York to visit a girl (Sarah) I had met in Peru on the Inca Trail. We had kept in contact over the last year, and I decided I needed a break from work and the London gloom.
Leaving on the 13th I was once again hungover (seems to be a recurring thing when I need to be travelling the next day) after a night out celebrating a flat mates birthday and only getting around 3hrs sleep. My flight left at 8:20am so that meant being at the airport at 6:30 or so….but none the less way too early!!!
As I was leaving my sister popped out of her room and threw the camera down the stairs to me (I knew id forget something) and I was on my way. Luckily on the flight I had 4 seats to myself so I stretched out and slept most of the way, which was good as I was arriving at 11am and had a full day ahead of me.
After arriving and getting myself sorted in a taxi to Brooklyn (where the friend was staying) I relaxed and slept most of the way there too. It
New York
New York by night was a nice surprise turning up at her apartment as I hadn’t seen her in nearly a year.
The first morning I woke up, the city was covered in fog…to the point where you couldn’t see more than about 200m in front of you. This made for a magical crossing of the Brooklyn bridge into Manhattan as the city appeared out of nowhere. There was an crazy Asian couple getting wedding photos taken under the bridge and they look frozen!!! But certainly a different set for wedding photos!!
Most of my time was spent walking around Manhattan (as Sarah had to work) for about 7 or 8hrs a day!! I did all the touristy things like, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Ground Zero, Chrysler Building, Grand Central, Times Square, UN, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Macy’s etc etc
Most nights there we were out meeting her mates (it seemed like I was a new toy she wanted to show off . Nearly all her mates work in magazines as well as her, so it was kind of strange listening to them talking shop, but I was made to feel welcome and had a great time. I got

Who's got fat cheeks along really well with two of her friends, which made my life a lot easier, and we went out one night without Sarah to the movies and a drink.
Being in New York there is sooo much to see and do, it really is an amazing city. Much taller than anything I had ever experienced (one of the first buildings I saw in Manhattan would have been taller than anything in Auckland, NZ and yet it was dwarfed by nearly every other building around it.
It took me 2 days to walk around Central Park (although very worth it) it was truly and amazing park, one the city should be proud of. Before I left the weather was forecast to be around 12 degrees (Celsius) and I was disappointed as I really wanted it to snow while I was there. Luckily for me the weather men seem to be the same world wide and they never get it right. I woke up on the 4th day to the city covered in about an inch of snow and crystal clear skies. The only downside was that it was about -12 degrees C. When walking about in the city and
the parks, I lost feeling in my chin, nose and ears which was a weird feeling and had to thaw out at several pit stops along the way that involved coffee. Central park was magical covered in snow (the first day I was there it wasn’t covered in snow), and the lakes that I had seen the previous day were now frozen over. I did try to go ice skating but unfortunately due to my feet size I couldn’t go (I have size 16US feet). A shame but something I’ve lived with for a while and used to.
One of the nights out involved good old NY style Pizza….I have never seen slices so big (we would consider them to be nearly have the size of a normal pizza back at home) but loved every mouthful of it. It seemed to me that a lot of New Yorkers don’t really cook that much and people eat out a lot.
I managed to get in a game of American football at a mates house, with the half time entertainment being Rockstar (a PS2 game like singstar but using a bass guitar and normal guitar)…very funny and tempting to get.

Too Many Damn wires for my liking Unfortunately as my brother put it, I am now a fan of the American version of Rugby and look forward to the Superbowl.
Its hard to explain new york, it certainly is something you have to experience yourself
My next trip is off to Scotland next weekend, so ill update you after I get back from that.
