The chef - Heinz
The captain of Echo and the chef at a great 4th of July party and bon fire We know we promised to let you know when our “open house “ at our new home would be. It has been hard to predict when we will be in a position to have anyone see our new home, but have decided we need to make a decision so you can check your calendars.
We have been working like crazy continuing to pack, sell and donate all that we have accumulated over the close to 36 years of marriage (and even some of the items are from before that!) Had quite a bit of our furniture and other belongings taken away by an auction house this month - sort of a strange feeling to see everything leaving at once, but it definitely cleaned out the big items in the house quickly. We are also starting to realize that much of what we had originally packed to put on the boat may not fit once we get it all there as we have been putting things away in the “for the boat pile” since early last fall and we haven’t seen it all together to see how large an amount of stuff that will be. As a result we have decided
Great friends
Great friends and fellow sailors, Anna and Judy. They are charter members of the TYC on Cayuga Lake to cancel the last yard sale that we were planning on having on July 17th as we will need the time to do other things. Guess this will give more things to area organizations as well as distribution on our very active FreeCycle list in Trumansburg and Ithaca. These are some of the things we will miss about this area as people are very conscious about recycling and re-using instead of discarding.
Well, the sale of the house is final as we had our closing on June 30th. It was a very pleasant closing and went very smoothly. The new owners are great people and as Bob said will be great as the next custodians of the house. We are fortunate that they were not in a hurry to move into the house so we can stay here until the end of July. This is giving us time to continue to work at both the boat and the house. We usually like to work together, but this month we are definitely not, Janice usually stays in Trumansburg to pack, sell, and donate while Bob goes to the boat to work on some of the really fun projects such as
The bonfire
What a bonfire that was! taking off bottom paint, putting in new refrigeration, modifying the anchor locker by making the holding tank smaller (this was especially fun!) Our nephew Ken has been helping us which really has made an impact by cleaning out a good part of the basement and most of the garage.
We have taken alittle time for fun having gotten together with our close friends, Peg & Dave who are in the process of moving out of the area as well. It sure helps to have someone else going through the same process (minus the preparation forthe boat) as we can support each other when things get overwhelming. We also had a great time at the Fourth of July bonfire get together at our friends Heinz and Anna. They are one of the charter members of the Taughannock Yacht Club (TYC) that we belonged to while on Cayuga Lake. A few other members were there so it was great to catch up with them as well as others that we have gotten to know over the years.
Now, for the important details -being sailors we definitely understand that we don’t want to break into weekend plans (or as little impact
Auction House - take it away!
One quick way to get rid of your furniture is to call an auction house. Just a strange sight to see your furniture out on the street being taken away as possible) so we figured we would open our house Tsamaya on Sunday, August 1st from 4 PM - 8PM (or until everyone leaves). Just a note that we probably won’t be completely settled on the boat, we will make arrangements for providing some beverages as well as finger food (as there aren’t many picnic tables around). If you’d like to bring something please bring something to pass (easily eaten while standing or sitting in a chair that you also bring!) would be greatly appreciated. This is also an event that you might like to bring your lawn chair to as the marina doesn’t have too much in facilities for sitting. Just like the state parks, this event will be a “carry in- carry out” If we find we have too many things on the boat, we just may create some door prizes for you to take away as well!! We wanted to give people a chance to see our new home as well as give us an opportunity to say “Tsamaya” to all the friends that we have made over the years.
Please RSVP so we can get a good head count to order food and drink. Bob said he will make extra room for wine and beer, but the refrigerator is pretty small.
One thing that would be greatly appreciated would be getting an approximate head count of people that would be coming so we can order the food. If you could get us your answer by Monday, July 19th that would be greatly appreciated. If your plans change (either way) after that date, please let us know.
Details on where our new home is located: Beacon Bay Marina at 6255 Lake Street, Cayuga NY. We don’t know what slip we will be at yet, but we should be easy to find as it will be the sailboat with the blue hull and its mast laying down ready for transiting the Erie Canal to the Hudson and beyond! Hope to see you there!
We will try to send out some individual invitations to you, but if you don’t get one, please count this blog entry as your official invitation to our open house at Tsamaya!

We'll be there!
Hi Janice and Bob: August 1 is perfect for us since our family reunion will take place in PA on July 31. We can bring a cooler with beer and wine and some snack type foods (and chairs). Looking forward to your party event! Great to see you two at the burn. I see my family in there - Patti, Mike, Don and Gail (from NYC). <: OH, and I just noticed ME sitting down (in red jacket). So, you got all of US. You two will need a much needed rest after your "move". I remember our neighbors (Jim, Judy Trudy) in their move to Florida; they were exhausted for weeks. Take care. All the best, Marian and Don
