Lake Placid In Town
Took this picture after we left the movies. It was minus 20F out. Unbelievable! Keith and I left Montreal on the 9:30am Amtrak train headed to Westport, NY. When we stepped outside it was icy and completed covered with snow. Even the taxi driver complained about it being so cold. Of course my camera battery went dead when we headed out and I couldn't find my charger. We took a few pics with my phone but they don't show the beautiful scenery that we saw on the train. The view was just unbelievable (Lake Champlaine frozen over with ice fisherman here and there, beautiful snow covered rivers and trees).
We arrived to the train depot in Westport, NY around 2pm. This depot had Norman Rockwell written all over it. When we arrived we soon realized we did not have a ticket to get to Lake Placid. So, we paid Bob $70 to take us to Lake Placid in the van with 9 other passengers. I rode on Keith's lap the entire 30 miles. Again, the view was just amazing! I can't wait to go back with a good camera and in my own car.
Bob told us stories of Bruce Springstein and his family coming up every year for the horse show. He

Not sure if this was in Canada or the US. We were on Amtrak and not quite to the Adirondacks. named several famous people that visit often. He also helped us find a great place to stay. Well, it was great to us at $79 per night and he dropped us at the door. We stayed right in town just a 5-10 minute walk from the restaurants and shops. The temperature when we arrived was around 15 degrees. At night it got down to minus 20F. We walked to the restaurant to have a nice steak dinner and our sinuses froze. It was the oddest feeling. My feet were so cold and I'm not a big fan of having my feet hurt. Keith didn't seem too bothered, except his poor ears were so red. I gave him some ear muffs that my friend Stephanie sent with us. They were life savers. I also gave him my black scarf. It's amazing how a scarf can keep the heat in. We just weren't equipped for these temperatures.
We both had a great steak dinner, compliments of a gift card from my boss. This was our first sit down nice dinner on the trip. So far it's been pizza and hot dogs. After dinner we both sat there for a while knowing we were heading out in the drastic weather. We decided to try the movie theater across the street. We watched Sherlock Holmes and we both fell asleep. I think we were exhausted at that point.
After the movie we stopped into a pub for a night cap. This was really just to warm ourselves up. It was just brutal out there. I wanted to call a cab but compromised by saying we could run home at full speed. Our trip home was picture perfect. By the time we arrived at our hotel it felt wonderful outside. It was quiet and so serene. I was beautiful outside.
