There are still lots small ears of corn on the ground, undisturbed for 800 years! Because corn has been so heavily selectively bred in the last 200 years to the 1 foot long corn cobs we know today, it was really eerie to see these ancient corn cobs that were only 5 inches long! Early domesticated corn more resembeled the grass it was bred from...

what craftsmanship! ANd they estimate the Mogollon only lived here for 30-50 years...

Gila Cliff Dwellings- ceremonial room from a different angle. The hearth on the left had evidence of animal, human and plant remains. The floor was littered with mini ancient corn cobs.

NPS ranger fishing out coins from the active pools inside the big Room. he told me there are no correlations between nationality of coins and numbers of coins in the pools! I thought maybe theres be more japanese coins. Most of the time the coins rust away into a grime that severely alters the living and active cave chemistry
