It doesn’t matter which side of the alien debate you are on, Roswell New Mexico is a fun place to explore. If you like the idea of the stereotype green alien, there are plenty of them all around the area to take photos of or with. Even the pizza chain there, Domino’s, has a large one with the sign. It is all part of the fun that draws people to this area. While this region is mainly agricultural with the various dairy cow farms and crops being grown, it has become a prime tourist region. If you aren’t familiar with the history, it is believed aliens were found in this area in 1947 but the US government covered it up. It is believed a UFO crashed about 75 miles from this location and the aliens were ... read more

Roswell. A name synonymous with alien beings from another world. It's not much of a town so unless you are visiting the International UFO Museum And Research Center, you'll no doubt drive straight on by. There certainly didn't seem to be anything else there worth exploring, although some of the shops were fun and the nearby restaurants looked tempting. Our opinions were mixed about the museum. There were lots of fun things to see and contemplate, but in this day and age it could have been a lot more interactive. It deals with a subject that lends itself to interactivity so that aspect was a bit disappointing. It was good, however, to learn so much more about the 1947 "incident" although it left us wondering how on Earth certain things happened. How were the greatest military minds ... read more

After watching my friend give a wonderful Brass Quintet recital in Denton, Texas, I made my way west towards Roswell. I hadn't been sure where I would go after Texas, but I saw Roswell on the map and knew it had to do with aliens.. Out on the open road, it's really not all that exciting, but it is a part of the journey. Once I landed into town, I was engulfed by the UFO and alien figures all around. It is basically their town mascot: many stores, radio stations, restaurants, even real estate agents have somehow incorporated aliens into their business. I too got suckered into buying a T-shirt :X The truth about their story is that there is an alien crash site some 35 or more miles away from the town where a UFO ... read more

August 4th, 2013 9:30 pm Day 26 Today we could sleep in longer because we spent the morning in Santa Fe, NM. We took a guided tour of Santa Fe with the Loretto Line Tour Company, the first tour started at 10:00 am and lasted one hour and twenty minutes. There was time before the tour so we took a drive to the National Cemetery. We got on the road at 12:00 pm for Roswell NM., 195 miles of open road driving. Got to Roswell, NM. at 4:45 pm. Stopped at an O'Reilly's parts store for hot patches, as I thought, you can't buy them anymore, parts guy didn't know what hot patches were. Then I thought maybe Tractor Supply might have some hot or cold patches since tractors may still use tubes in their tires. ... read more

27th Aug ’12 Roswell, New Mexico Roswell is much larger than I expected, as we have arrived late yesterday we haven’t looked around properly yet, saving that for today, but we did pass McDonalds and Looci, it no longer looks like a space ship! I’m gutted!! They have built a kids play area onto it, how dare they?!! But the lamp posts all have alien heads so that’s good and Arby’s welcomes aliens! So it’s another blistering hot day in New Mexico so I don’t think my tin foil alien hat will see much action unless I want my brains well cooked, so it’s a good job I got a photo last night while I was outside watching the skies! Main Street seems to be where all the UFO shops and action is (the rest of ... read more

What a great day today! We had been looking forward to visiting Lincoln New Mexico. This is where Billy the Kid escaped from Pat Garrett and shot several people. It was a great piece of history and Mason did a project on New Mexico in school and this was something he was looking forward to seeing. Imagine our surprise when we showed up to find out it was Lincoln County Days going on. We were able to see a parade, sample some local cuisine (it was SOOOOOO good) and really get a feel for the people of this area. It was a something we had been looking forward to and this just made it better. Once we were done seeing what we needed to see, we left and went to Fort Stanton. This was a fort ... read more
