The White mountains national park is stunningly beautiful and studded with waterfalls and fast flowing streams. We tried to go up the road to the top of Mount Washington this morning but of course the weather has turned and it is raining again. The wind at the top was blowing hard and the top was in cloud so the attendants at the entrance booth recomended not to bother. Since there is a sizeable fee to drive the road we decided to wait until tomorrow.
On the way up to the auto route a passing car flashed its light at us and as we rounded the bend there was a moose and her calf standing by the side of the road. I managed to get a couple of photos before they disappeared into the forest.
We drove down past one of the golf courses and stopped to take a photo of the covered bridge that was there which was very pretty. There are a few golf courses here and they are all very picturesque.
We carried on and stopped to see a couple of waterfalls until we came to the Flume gorge in the Franconia park. It was a stuuning series of
waterfalls that cascaded down through a deep granite gorge. Due to it being a public holiday for Memorial day there were a lot of people there
but since we took the long trail which was about 3 and a half kms we managed to get away and avoid some of the fatties, of which there are a lot of here. If you saw the grocery stores you would understand why!
We continued on through the Franconia park and stopped at a lookout which covered most of the surrounding mountains. The scenery here is just breathtaking. I wish we had a week to see all of it and take some of the many hikes.
We sat outside again this evening and the Hummingbird made a brief appearance. It has decided that I am not a red flower though and I didn't have time to get a photo. I did see a couple more Blue Jays earlier though.
