I'm afraid this blog will be going dormant for a while, hopefully not too long. We were in Quartzsite, AZ for a rally and two days before it started, Natalie had a stroke. She was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas and I visited her for a couple days before going back to get the rig. Now we are in Las Vegas and I will be able to visit her every day until she's fully recovered. More soon, I hope.... read more

When was the last time, you did something for the first time? It was going to be my first time sky jumping - which is when you jump off a building, but don’t free fall under gravity. You do come down, in a controlled fashion, reaching a top speed of 40mph. Having done similar stuff in the past, I was still looking forward to it. The day started early. My wife and I had breakfast at the hotel. Before sky jumping, there was another bit of adventure that we wanted to do - hand feeding some lions. We made our way to the Lion Habitat Ranch at a place called Henderson, which is a few miles south of Las Vegas. We were greeted by an ostrich and an emu upon entering the premises. There were birds ... read more

As usual, I'm slightly late on blogging. I hope your travelling is treating you well. I left Bali end of May, so yes few places have been visited since then. I'm flying back to my lovely wife in Bali today, so hopefully I'll have more time to post few blogs. So the last few weeks were spent between home in Shelly Beach (plus Durban and Joburg) and Congo plus a super cool 3 weeks side trip mainly to the States, here is the first of those entries. Shelly beach, our South African home, is doing pretty well. Not a lot of diving for me this time, but still few very cool ones...a lot of golf and back to my fun wine reserve too! Loadshedding did treat us pretty well in SA end of May and June, ... read more

Thankfully I wasn't bumped off the flight to San Diego but neither was I upgraded! One day maybe! San Diego was so interesting with the USS Midway aircraft carrier to explore which took several hours as there were many ex naval guys to show everyone around. We then headed for the Gaslight area of the city with it's many bars and restaurants to partake in a cold beer and wine! Second day was a trip to the San Diego zoo which was massive and needed a bus to go around plus a cable car. We stopped in a park later to watch some lawn bowlers and were invited to join them but it was too late in the day unfortunately. We then took the Amtrak train to Los Angeles where we met up with Dave, an ... read more

Another spectacular day. We started with a very informative tour of the Hoover Dam, followed by a drive through the Lake Meade National Recreational Area on the way to Valley of Fire State Park. We met birds and lizards and saw rocks do amazing things. What a beautiful world we live in!... read more

We spent the morning at Lake Tahoe and then drove along the Sierras to Death Valley, where we arrived just in time for bed. There is so much beauty in this world! We are lucky to be able to see so much of it.... read more

I had been to Las Vegas in 2018 to attend a conference and had a fair idea of the city and some tourist attractions nearby. With that background, we decided to include that as part of our vacation. But one mistake we did was to assume the weather (to be on the warmer side) and went prepared with that assumption. My wife and my 9yo daughter accompanied me on the trip. We took a flight from Burbank to Las Vegas. Weather began to play its part right from there. There were very strong winds and that caused a lot of turbulence in the flight. It was like an aerial roller coaster ride before we somehow managed to land safely. We had booked Hotel Sahara which is located on the northern end of the main strip. The ... read more

After St George, we drove through some an area called “the Gorge” in the northwest corner of Arizona. The Gorge has even more interesting hills and rock formations. They were as dramatic, but not as nearly as colorful as the hills around St George and Zion National Park. And the highway follows a much more winding path through the hills making it an exciting drive with our luxurious 37-foot home attached. Before leaving St George, the weather guessers and friends who knew where we were going suggested the winds could be a problem, so they urged us to be careful and take it slow. We did take it slower than normal, but the winds weren’t very noticeable we emerged from the Gorge into mostly flat. When our drive was over for the day and we were ... read more

I generally visit Las Vegas twice a year now, once in the spring, and once in the fall. And I rarely visit or stay downtown or or the Strip. I spend most of my time with dear friends, Ken and Debbie out at TPC Summerlin. So, why am I here? Well, Debbie, an excellent golfer, is playing in a big tournament. So, I will keep Ken company during the day, play cards, and probably have some rather interesting meals. Who knows, we might even play a few holes at the TPC course, which is on the property. I hope we get over to my new, favorite Thai restaurant, Nittaya's Secret Kitchen, owned by a friend of Debbie's. In fact, she will probably compete in the tournament with Debbie. Nittaya now owns four restaurants in the greater ... read more

Late start to the day again (this is Vegas) and we went down to the pool area around 11am and stayed there for a few hours. No swimming done but I just spent time relaxing and updating the blog on my iPad and Kerry got deeper into the book she has been reading. One of the strange things about the pool here is they had a pool lane rope splitting the square shape pool in half. They had 2 of the 4 lifeguard towers being used and they would not let anyone go to the half of the pool that was closed off. They charge a resort fee of around $50- per day to use the resort facilities and then only allow you to use half the pool ! Since we are in Paris I had ... read more
