We were home from our World Voyage for over a month and figured it was about time to get on the road. Literally! We were going to the Black Hills of South Dakota for an Atkins Family Reunion. We briefly considered flying back to Rapid City, but why, when the whole western United States is a road tripper’s dream landscape. We packed up our Honda Odyssey and headed east on a cool, foggy July morning. One of the best things about traveling by car versus airplane is that you can take whatever you might possibly need for several weeks without a second thought of Homeland Security. I woke before dawn on Sunday and was feeling restless for the quintessential American road-trip. I headed off to Lake Tahoe and made it back to San Jose before dark. The only rule is that you are not allowed to get out of the car to take photos, or video, so it presents some additional challenges. In India, it could take you several days to cover 500 miles. Here, the exercise of extreme acceleration and tight cornering on a well paved open road is relatively safe and unbearably enjoyable. In 10 hours of driving, only 20 minutes were spent in a traffic jam. It feels good to have horsepower under your foot, wind in your hair, great music blaring on the radio, and not a care in the world. ... read more

At the end of a working trip on Work and Travel program in California I was riding the race on bicycle organized by a local club Bikethewest around Lake Tahoe to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11th of the terrorist attack on on the twins. At the start we met at around five hundreds, so I did not feel so alone in the race as if I was touring around the lake itself. At first I went quite stiff before I warmed up. After all, the start was pretty soon and at an altitude of 2000 m the September is already very cold. Some said that even at night, even a little freezing.
