What a weekend full of pure chaos. Four days of a sneak peak into the life of a "river rat." The culmination of days, weeks, and months of planning rolled into four days of river fun. We were a group of twenty mostly made up of some type of asian descent from the suburbs of southern california. Our vices: a houseboat that slept 12, a Tigre wakeboarding boat, two high-powered fussy Yamaha waverunners and more cases/handles of liquor that one could comprehend. We were in for some trouble.
The weekend started off great. Most of us had arrived early, checked in the boat, loaded the boat, and launched the two waverunners. By late Thursday night, we were waiting on two cars, one of which had the boat. Then the dreaded text came in, "ughhhh we're lost." The trip started and ended at that exact moment, we were in for an adventure. After all was said and done, we almost lost a 35,000 boat to the desert of Arizona. The driver of the boat (a very good first-time boat tower) had taken the prized jewel into the middle of the desert through an indescribable stretch of road that could of compared
similar to that of the surface of the moon. Even the AAA dude who saved us was pissing his pants while driving through the same stretch of road with his fully loaded truck. Keep in mind, the truck not only went through this horrible stretch of road - but attached to it a trailer and 7,000 pound wakeboarding boat! After finding the truck and boat perched uphill in the middle of the desert, we were able to safetly get it back to the marina. After all was said and done, four hours later, we could only breathe a sigh of relief and try not to think about what just happened. Let's just say, the moral of the story is: "Don't always believe what you read/see." Your GPS on your phone is about as accurate as a blind person playing darts and with you being the dart board, especially if you have AT&T. It's not truly a houseboat trip unless something really bad happens(a friend jumps off a 60ft. cliff on their back, someone gets lost on an island, a boat/waverunner breaks down). Fortunately for us, we went through it the first night and ended up fairly unscaved.
The following
day we find a huge, beautiful beach and beach the houseboat. The houseboat slept 12, had a full kitchen, two bathrooms, an upper deck with couches, a bbq, and AC. We found a beautiful stretch of cove about five minutes past the telephone lines. The beach wasn't rocky, and we had two high vantage points of the lake on both sides of the beach. The drinking enseus, as well as the wakeboarding, and the music blasting. We were together as one, in the middle of the desert, alcohol pumping through our veins, and having the time of our lives.
The wakeboarding boat was loads of fun. It came equipped with a full stereo so we could blast eachother's music over, and over, and over(bryan's music) again. It also came with a tube so we were able to whip each other from side to side all the while getting thrashed around by the wake. Fortunately, the drivers were nice and no one was seriouly hurt.
Late Saturday as the sun was setting, we all climbed up to cliff area near by to watch the sunset. Atop were magnificant views of the whole lake, as well as the colors from
the sky. The air was warm, the water was calm, and we all had a beautiful moment together. It was a nice time to reminisce and soak in the natural beauty of the lake and surrounding area. Just four hours from home, being at the lake felt like we were in another world. After having a bonding moment, we returned to the houseboat to do more beerbongs.
Unfortunately, the four days passed all too quickly. The next thing we knew, were loading the boat, cleaning up, and trying to back this big mofo out off the beach. The last day was hectic, but manageable. We all made it back to the marina in one piece. The trip was a success. We all experienced another successful houseboat trip. For many this was their first, for others their second or third, we just hope next year we may all be able to experience it again!
