Thankfully I wasn't bumped off the flight to San Diego but neither was I upgraded! One day maybe! San Diego was so interesting with the USS Midway aircraft carrier to explore which took several hours as there were many ex naval guys to show everyone around. We then headed for the Gaslight area of the city with it's many bars and restaurants to partake in a cold beer and wine! Second day was a trip to the San Diego zoo which was massive and needed a bus to go around plus a cable car. We stopped in a park later to watch some lawn bowlers and were invited to join them but it was too late in the day unfortunately. We then took the Amtrak train to Los Angeles where we met up with Dave, an ... read more

I had been to Las Vegas in 2018 to attend a conference and had a fair idea of the city and some tourist attractions nearby. With that background, we decided to include that as part of our vacation. But one mistake we did was to assume the weather (to be on the warmer side) and went prepared with that assumption. My wife and my 9yo daughter accompanied me on the trip. We took a flight from Burbank to Las Vegas. Weather began to play its part right from there. There were very strong winds and that caused a lot of turbulence in the flight. It was like an aerial roller coaster ride before we somehow managed to land safely. We had booked Hotel Sahara which is located on the northern end of the main strip. The ... read more

After St George, we drove through some an area called “the Gorge” in the northwest corner of Arizona. The Gorge has even more interesting hills and rock formations. They were as dramatic, but not as nearly as colorful as the hills around St George and Zion National Park. And the highway follows a much more winding path through the hills making it an exciting drive with our luxurious 37-foot home attached. Before leaving St George, the weather guessers and friends who knew where we were going suggested the winds could be a problem, so they urged us to be careful and take it slow. We did take it slower than normal, but the winds weren’t very noticeable we emerged from the Gorge into mostly flat. When our drive was over for the day and we were ... read more

I generally visit Las Vegas twice a year now, once in the spring, and once in the fall. And I rarely visit or stay downtown or or the Strip. I spend most of my time with dear friends, Ken and Debbie out at TPC Summerlin. So, why am I here? Well, Debbie, an excellent golfer, is playing in a big tournament. So, I will keep Ken company during the day, play cards, and probably have some rather interesting meals. Who knows, we might even play a few holes at the TPC course, which is on the property. I hope we get over to my new, favorite Thai restaurant, Nittaya's Secret Kitchen, owned by a friend of Debbie's. In fact, she will probably compete in the tournament with Debbie. Nittaya now owns four restaurants in the greater ... read more

Late start to the day again (this is Vegas) and we went down to the pool area around 11am and stayed there for a few hours. No swimming done but I just spent time relaxing and updating the blog on my iPad and Kerry got deeper into the book she has been reading. One of the strange things about the pool here is they had a pool lane rope splitting the square shape pool in half. They had 2 of the 4 lifeguard towers being used and they would not let anyone go to the half of the pool that was closed off. They charge a resort fee of around $50- per day to use the resort facilities and then only allow you to use half the pool ! Since we are in Paris I had ... read more

We had a late start to the day as we were so tired after yesterday and had breakfast in our room being yoghurts bought from the nearby CVC Pharmacy. We decided to take the Deuce bus to South Las Vegas premium outlet centre and it was only a short walk across the strip to catch the bus. We bought the unlimited 24 hour pass which cost $8- each. Another stinking hot sunny day around 35 degrees. I did not know what to expect at the outlet centre but I knew it wouldn’t be as good as it was when we were here for Christmas in 2010 when our currency was at parity with the USD (maybe even a little better) when we spent big here. The first purchase was at the Nike store where I got ... read more

Woke up this Sunday morning to another sunny day with fresh mountain air and we went back to Porters Restaurant for breakfast for the second time. We both had the Fruit Parfait and OJ and I had a coffee as well and did not realise our vouchers only allowed one beverage but the waiter said it was all OK. I’d overlooked to mention yesterday that I was able to watch the AFL Grand Final whilst we were staying here on Friday night on ESPN with coverage starting @ 10.30pm and I saw Geelong thrash the Sydney Swans on what looked like a beautiful Melbourne spring day. As we walked back to our room at the back of the complex to get ready to check out we had a quick walk to see the adjoining hobby farm ... read more

14th August, 2022 We both slept in this morning. It was needed. We went on the tram from The Mirage to Treasure Island for a look around and each put $1 in a one cent machine. We ended up pulling $70 out of it after an hour or so. Good entertainment value. We took the voucher with us. Then we walked the Strip for a little while taking in all the sites and smells. Gunja everywhere. Ended up at Margaritaville so we got a drink and something to eat. Kept walking and stopped at another Margarita Bar and got the large plastic tubes that you can drink while walking along the street with. Next stop was at the Venetian to have a gondola ride. The young gondolier was a really funny guy. He could also sing. ... read more

15th August, 2022 I got up early to call an audiologist to see if I could get my hearing aid fixed. I made an appointment for 11:00. We got a Lyft up there as it was a long way to walk. The audiologist was great and said that the receiver in the aid had failed and she easily put a new one in and hey presto all fixed. I can hear again. Sandra has wanted to visit the shop where “Pawn Stars“ is filmed. So, from the audiologist we set off on foot. Jeez it was hot. We got half way and saw a Cheesecake Factory shop so we stopped in there to get a drink and some lunch and to cool down a bit. We both had salads and no cheesecake. We set off again ... read more

16th August, 2022. Well, I slept in this morning. Sandra was up early as usual and got me some juice for breakfast. After a bit of a slow start, we left at 10:15 for our zip line at the Fremont St experience. The Deuce bus that is supposed to be every 10 minutes ended up being 35 minutes late and then the driver told us we couldn’t get on coz it was too full. We had to wait another 15 minutes for the next bus and only just managed to get on. The both of us were starting to think we wouldn’t make it in time. Then when we were almost there, the bus engine just stopped. The driver couldn’t start it and there was no air conditioning. After a few more tries, it started again ... read more
