I slept good and got going around 10 after a quick shower. I always take advantage of a shower whenever possible as I never know when the next chance for me to have one of those may come. I thanked Andrea, my couchsurfing host for everything, and apologized for the late notice lst night and then headed out. I went to a gas station just down the road and tried to call Laura my couchsurfing possibility for tonight. Andrea had said if things do not work to get back in touch with her and I could stay there again. I got a hold of Laura and she said sure come on over. It is always nice when you get a person that seems so willing to give you a place to stay. Laura did just that and her place was very near. I went in and grabbed a biscuit and egg sandwich at the gas station. Your right it was not that great but if fulfilled my egg craving. I then headed to Laura’s. We talked for awhile and I learned that she is a very active lady and keeps a very neat house. I was getting her spare bedroom
and she had her computer upstairs to be used for internet and later in the day she offered a pizza which I probably should not have accepted, but did. Laura had to leave for work at 3 and she left me there to do as I wished. I ended up journaling for awhile and surfed the internet as well.
Around 5 I headed out to see the craziness of the strip. I wanted to see a show as well, but was not going to pay a lot of money. I had decided nothing over $60. I chose one that was going on at Bally’s. It was pretty good, but I purchased the $48 seat that was far from the stage. The thing that amazed me the most was the stage sets. They know how to do it in Vegas as they had about 4 different sets and all of them were very elaborate.
From there I just spent the night walking the strip as there is a lot of walking to do. The place was as crazy as ever. I watched the Sirens of TI at Treasure Island the free show that I saw the last time in
Vegas. I headed back to Laura’s around 1 and turned in. It was good to see the craziness of Vegas again, but one night was enough since I am not a gambler and I was ready to move on. Next stop Zion. Good night from Vegas, where again I must sleep, even though the City does not.

I offered to take Laura out for breakfast, but she mentioned cooking blueberry pancakes and that sounded great to me and they were great. Laura does not cook a lot according to her, but sure did a good job with those pancakes and man she can take some Olympic size bites as well. I happened to see her take a bite that was a little bigger than normal and I teased her about that far a while, but she took it all in stride unfortunately.
I headed out around 11 and told her I was going to Valley of Fires State Park and she said she does a run for breast cancer near that Park. I made it there in an hour or so. It was pretty impressive and I was glad I had stopped. I did a little
hiking on the rocks.
A lot of people I know really brag the parks in southern Utah and Zion which was my next stop so I was anxious to head there. I stopped in a small diner in Overton near the north end of Lake Mead and had a pretty decent bowl of chili and a salad. I was wanting to talk to a couple locals there, but really could not get much of a conversation going. I went to a supermarket there in Overton and got some camping supplies. I did talk to the people working the registers about the area and enjoyed that.
I made it to Zion around 4 and was amazed at the beauty of the sandstone. I had no idea it would be that neat. The Colorado Plateau is something to behold. The town of Springdale just outside of Zion is extremely touristy. I had no idea Zion was that well known, but the Europeans sure seem to know about it. I think the Europeans may know more about the US western parks, than most in America know about them including myself until now.
I pulled into Zion and got a campsite.
Actually I was assigned a campsite. Most parks let you decide but in Zion they decide for you, which is fine by me. They had a ranger talk going on at 8:30 that I found very interesting. It was about the stars, birds and frogs in the park. I really enjoyed the presentation and then headed back to my campsite around 9:30. I was tired and called it a night. Good night from Zion National Park. It feels good to be here!
