Day 31: Carson City, NV to Ely, NV
Left Comstock Country RV Resort about 9 AM and headed out on US 50 (known as the loneliest road). While the traffic was light, there were vehicles going both ways. I doubt that we drove for more than 20 minutes all day without seeing another vehicle. It was a beautiful run with a wide variety of desert scenery, from flat dry lakes to mountains over 10,000'. Only about three towns in 326 miles. Passed several Navy Live fire ranges, but didn't see a single fighter. We did see several ruins of Pony Express stations - - They were not signed, but they were surrounded by hurricane fence - - managed to get just one photo. Kerry kept track of the length of one of the long straight sections - - 18+ miles. We passed several mines today, from just outside of Carson City, to just over the west side of the mountain from Ely. Some of the mines were obviously very old and abandoned, but the big ones were in full operation - - you can see (in one of our photos) some of the dust they were generating. We stopped in
Sylloettes on Bridge
In Carson City and over
US 50 a KOA south of Ely. The guy that pulled in next to us is from Panama City Beach !! Also met two ladies in Truckee, CA from Ft. Walton Beach - - small world.
