Beatty, NV, is a tiny town of 800 people. There is a casino, a bar, a Dennys, a Museum, a candy store, some hotels, a thrift shop, a general store, a few burros... But it's quite close to the Death Valley National Park, and that keeps people coming through.

El Portal Motel is where I write from right now. Simple, quiet, the room has a microwave and a refrigerator, cable, and a flawless, included in the price, wi-fi. Better than you can say about Las Vegas' hotels. It's all good.

Here are some pictures...

Free. Explains the history of this small town. It is right across from El Portal Motel where I am staying. In another picture you'll see that this hotel has been around for a while. It started with just a few rooms, now expanded to several.

One day, the attendant of the Beatty Museum was going through boxes in the shed, when she found this book... signed by Mark Twain!

Once upon a time this would not have been funny enough to take a picture...

This is a mural at the location where once upon a time there was a train station. Once there was no gold around there was no more need for it. The pieces of wood that tied the railroad tracks where lifted and used in varied ways, included to make houses!

For some reason I don't understand, burros are wild to this area. These three have been around for so long that they are considered Beatty's pets. They're so used to people anyone can go up to them to pet them.

Began many years ago with just a few rooms. Today it has many... and I'm in one of them... probably should take a modern picture too...

It is covered in one dollar bills and foreign currency. The bartender said last count was done in 2011 and there were about $4,000 in cash stuck to the walls.
