Day 8 - Friday, Sept. 11

Had an easy drive today from Helena, MT to Glacier National. We took the scenic drive and took a detour or two. A very enjoyable day. We drove the southern part of the Park, just on the outskirts to get a feel for our day in the park tomorrow. Our timing is lucky, a week ago there was too much smoke from the fires close-by and teh highway we were on was closed for several days. We saw part of the damage, but from the road it didn't look extensive. Makes me worried about we might see when we get to Washington State.

Bob has been polishing up the car every night and his job has been to find the "proper" car wash to remove the bugs and dirt from the day. Today, we didn't realize it, but there was a six mile stretch of road work on the way back from our scenic drive. We were on a gravel road driving 5 MPH, no kidding. Luckily, everyone else had gotten the "word" so there wasn't anyone else on the road, so at least there wasn't any kickback from cars and trucks. We weren't in a hurry, so it didn't really matter much (to me, ha).

Must say, we booked our hotel the best we could and ended up in the middle of Blackfoot Indian Reservation. It's a new Holiday Inn, but I didn't realize that it was in a very depressed area and connected to a small-time Casino. The Casino is the only place to eat in town, so we spent $5 at the slots (we're really big spenders) and got a hamburger "steak" with grilled onions on a paper plate! There ya go! Our day in a nutshell. Remember here, I'm not judging -- after all, I'm 1/8th Chickasaw! (We could out do these BFNA {Blackfoot Native Americans} any day). With the possible exception of my friend, Elaine, who is part BFNA! Hi Elaine!
