The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world, after Frying Pan Lake in New Zealand and Boiling Lake in Dominica.

There are more geysers in Yellowstone than anywhere else on earth.

Bubbling upward, the steam expands as it nears the top of the water column. At a critical point, the confined bubbles actually lift the water above, causing the geyser to splash or overflow. This decreases pressure on the system, and violent boiling results. Tremendous amounts of steam force water out of the vent, and an eruption begins.

It is one of the most predictable geographical features on Earth, erupting every 35 to 120 minutes.

While we were here it was erupting every 91 minutes.

Eruptions can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 US gallons of boiling water to a height of 106 to 185 feet lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes.

Over the years, the length of the interval has increased, which may be the result of earthquakes affecting subterranean water levels.

Some great pics of a fabulous part of the USA and some wonderful insight into the limited brainpower of many of your fellow travelers. Just when you think that a memorialization in an obit couldn't get much worse than the words 'killed by
a bison while taking a selfie', just imagine the number of times in the future we'll see 'killed while wandering into traffic, while playing Pok?mon Go.
