After having a blast at the family reunion, we left Flat Head Lake on Monday and headed towards Glacier National Park in northern Montana with Bird and Bob and the Tabor family (Patty's sister). We traveled on the "highway to the sun" (which just opened a few weeks ago because of snow) through the park and we stopped at Logan Pass for a hike. The hike was 90% on the snow and we saw some great wildlife (see pics). We spent the last three nights at Many Glacier Hotel in the heart of Glacier National park. The hotel is only open three months a year (June through August) and it is where Stephen King got the idea for the movie "The Shining". It was built in the early 1900s and not much has changed with the ... read more

Survived the night without being eaten by a bear. It was a bit chilly though, only 5 degrees this morning when I got up. Glad that I now have a car that can tell me things. I was on the road not much after 7am, adding an bit more mud and dust to the Murano. Had a good drive for the 130ish km to Glacier national park. The Montana country side is a pleasure to drive through, even the open country side and farmland which there is pleanty of (there is a reason why they call this the big sky country) is varied and interesting with its rolling hills and colours. I topped up with gas well before the national Park as I have found that the gas right near them is often at least 30c ... read more

July 14th, A long travel day. Started early heading for Glacier National Park via Missoula, Polson and Flat head Lake. Followed the 'Road to the Sun' across the Park. Fantastic road and scenery. No Glacier thanks to global warming. Lake upon lake, waterfalls by the score, so beautiful. Mountain goats, Brown Bears and lots of deer. Sometimes too close. Arrived late at Kimberley, British Columbia, where we are staying with relatives for a few days. Pam and George ... read more

We headed east on US Hwy 2, which skirts the southern part of Glacier National Park. We stopped at Goat Lick Overlook (which was recommended by more than one person.) We actually did see several mountain goats, big and small. We crossed the continental divide (again) at Marias Pass, elevation 5220'. I think before this trip is over, I'm going to have to sit down and count how many times we crossed the continental divide. At East Glacier Park (that's the name of the town) we headed north on state road 49, a winding, climbing road that overlooks the valley east of Glacier NP. We entered the park again at St. Mary and took the Going-to-the-Sun Road west back to West Glacier. St. Mary Lake is gorgeous and the glaciers and waterfalls on the east ... read more

It is 32 miles from West Glacier, MT to Logan Pass, up the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier NP. We made the round-trip drive in only 5 hours and around 150 photographs. The best description I can give of Glacier National Park's scenery is "WOW!" And if the snowy mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers and waterfalls aren't enough, today we saw a moose enjoying his lunch from the bottom of a pond, bighorn sheep watching all the people that were watching them, a mountain goat totally ignoring the traffic going by or stopping to take his picture near Logan Pass, and a golden eagle soaring overhead. They just finished digging out Logan Pass and the visitor center there. There is still snow beside the walkways that is 6' deep or more. Snowball fights are ... read more

Arriving at the south shore of Lake McDonald in the early evening, I stood up on the rocks and felt the air getting moister and colder. The mountains were reflected in the water, boats were coming back to a tiny marina and fishermen were keeping hope as they swished their rods in a few more attempts to catch that big fish before retiring to the lodge. I took my boots off and shivered as I lowered my feet into the refreshing cold water, touching round pebbles at the lake's bottom. That made me hungry. I grabbed something to eat, returned to the shore and watched the landscape until the evening grew darker and I had to force my eyes to find the dividing line between lake and mountains; only the peak silhouettes were clear against the ... read more

Happy Father's Day Daddy and Daddy Jack !!! and Happy Birthday Hunter and Anthony !!! I love you millions !!! Let me start by saying it was really really cold last night and somehow Tim and I ended up on the pull out couch while Kayla & Emily slept very comfortably in our king sized bed !! We were so excited about Glacier National Park and Canada today we got up around 9:00 a.m. and started preparing for the day. The girls and I gathered our buckets and headed downhill to the showers for our daily ritual. Let’s hope that no one ends up on the floor today! The three of us are all out of the shower and getting ready. Emily and I are brushing our teeth as Kayla is blow-drying her hair. All of ... read more

We awoke this morning in West Yellowstone, Montana at the local KOA camp ground after a descent's night sleep. We knew we had a very long drive ahead of us so we got off to a pretty early start (around 8:30). Emily, Kayla and I grab our little shower buckets and head off to the showers while Tim decides he's going to try out the shower in the motor home today. You know that the girls always take way longer than me, so I'm finishing up my shower and getting ready to step out of the shower into the attached dressing area while they are still showering a few stalls down. I'm drying off, putting my powder on and trying to get dressed in this itsy bitsy tiny space that has this little mat thing in ... read more
