We had a cabin booked at the Apgar Village Lodge, which included a small kitchen, where we had our first homemade away-from-home meal. The cabin was about 100 feet from the river, and Anna and I quickly broke out our fishing rods and tried our luck. Despite quite a bit of trying, and an after-dinner drive up to fish a more-secluded area of Lake McDonald, we were still empty handed. Oh well. We wrapped up the day with some huckleberry ice cream, which was good but not great. Throughout our time in Montana, everywhere we looked were signs for huckleberry everything -- ice cream, pie, soap, pancakes, candy, etc. We soon wearied of them, but I'm sure they have a proper place on the food pyramid.
