Up before 7am - breakfast and finishing the packing - ready for our flight to Bozeman.
Had a coffee with Linda's Swedish friends Be-be and her husband Gustof...they are a great couple. Gustof is a practising dermatologist and Be-be is a retired general practioner - both are in their 70's. We all agreed we should meet up again in 2016!
Rain in Seattle today. The drive to Seatac airport was straightforward even in the rain. After dropping off the rental we caught a shuttle bus over to the terminal. SeaTac is a huge place.
When we arrived at the self serve check in counter we noticed that our fight had been brought forward by an hour - now leaving at midday rather than 1pm. Luckily we had arrived early for the flight. Check In of bags $25 each and then we headed through to security.
Flying with Alaskan Airlines today - tickets booked last March - $700 for both of us. Flight is 1 hour 45 minutes. The plane held only 76 passengers and was absolutely full. Not all the luggage was able to be loaded onto the plane - when we arrived at the other end
we found out that ours was one of them! The bag was delivered to our hotel by 8pm - all good.
Flying into Bozeman was a magical experience. Snow capped mountains littered the landscape for as far as they eye could see.
Bozeman is surrounded by four mountain ranges, thousands of acres of the Gallatin National Forest and hundreds of miles of blue ribbon trout streams, so the recreation opportunities are virtually endless. Hiking, biking, fly fishing, and rafting.
Bozeman is an important winter recreation area with three major ski areas nearby. Bridger Bowl Ski Area is located 16 miles northeast of town, Moonight Basin and Big Sky Resort is 45 miles south. Lone Peak Pass provides a skier the biggest skiing in the USA.
We have a rental vehicle for overnight - Toyota Corolla - $49 - with full insurance.
Snow covers all the side walks and numerous roads in the city are closed. Expected minimum for tonight is -2 degrees Celcius.
We had a visit to the Yellowstone Harley Davison dealership here in downtown Belgrade. Smaller than other dealerships we have seen and clothing and accessories more like australian prices. Still it
was good to have a look around.
Checking in at our hotel "Quality Inn" was quick and easy. The hotel is right on the main road just a few miles from the airport. We grabbed a bite to eat at the local Albertsons grocery store before heading off to Walmart to get some basic food supplies for our Yellowstone trip.
We will be catching a shuttle bus from the airport at 1.45pm - $108 for both of us. Shuttle will take us to mammoth hot springs where will stay for 3 nights - $102 per night for a room with a queen bed and a shared bathroom.
There will be no internet access while in the park so I'll update blog when we return to Belgrade in six days time.
Have a happy and safe Xmas everyone⛄️❄️
