The second day of the road trip has ended in a phenomenal way: face first into some amazing pizza. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in Missouri, Shakespeare's Pizza. I actually bought one to eat at the restaurant and one to take with me to enjoy later on, and I hope to do that tomorrow. I was also able to get to my hotel and have a pleasantly slow evening after driving another 4 hours today. It has been a day of highs and lows in a literal sense. The main tourist thing to do today involved baseball. Frankly, this entire trip is planned around baseball games because my favorite major league team, the Toronto Blue Jays, are in St Louis for the first weekend of the season before moving to Kansas City for a four-game ... read more

Well, we woke-up in Miami around 9am. Hungry. I didn’t feel good. I had a runny nose and a head cold. We walked across the street to McDonalds and I ordered an orange juice and a biscuit. We walked over to Publix and grabbed some fruit juice and Chex Mix. I took a long, hot shower. I crawled back in bed in my leggings, t-shirt, and socks. I was freezing but I felt hot to the touch. I was a snot machine. I slept a few hours. I’m not sure what order we did things today. We both took turns sleeping off and on. We had a 1-bedroom suite so we one of us could be in the living room with the TV and the other one could be sleeping in the bedroom which is what ... read more

This is a catch up blog for two days. Yesterday I stayed at Shakamak State Park somewhere in the wilds of Indiana with no wifi. After a 10 hour drive yesterday, we arrived at Shakamak in the rain at about 4:30. It was a long tedious drive and took longer than expected because I felt the need to stop every 2-3 hours to reassure Malika and encourage her to eat, use the litter and have a drink and a cuddle for a few minutes. She has found a hiding spot by the back door under the bed and runs for it as soon as the van moves. But once we stop she is out and exploring and was actually playing with her toys last night. I never realized how much time she is up in the ... read more

We are leaving for South America this week! Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay to be exact. How did this trip come about? On July 4th last year we booked this trip after we received an email about discounted 2023 cruises. Kamie’s goal is to step foot on as many continents as possible and South America had been on our radar for years. We booked an 8-night, 9-day cruise with Costa Cruises. Costa Cruise Lines is owned by the Carnival Corporation and it’s their Italian line of ships which caters to Europeans (mainly Italians) not Americans. This cruise will be different than anything we’ve experienced previously. Basically, we’ve read that anywhere from 3 to 15 percent of the passengers will speak English, most will speak Italian, and everything on the ship is listed or spoken in five languages ... read more

October 14th – 15thOctober 2022 We arrived in St Louis in the evening and we only had the one night at the hotel. We already had dinner on the road, so we checked in, left our bags in the room and went out to see the Gateway Arch. It was nice to take a night time walk – my night time photography isn’t all that but I am working on it. I got a few pics and we set off back to the hotel as we had a long day and were both tired, plus we had another long drive the following morning. From St Louis, we made our way to the Route 66 State Park in Eureka for a stamp on the passport and a few photos. From there, we drove to the Fanning Outpost ... read more

Seven months after reintroducing this blog I am reeling from the loss of my father, its effects on my mother, and find myself questioning every move I make. I am so blessed to have truly great people around me. Day by day, I am trying to be more comfortable with the feelings of loss and guilt instead of running away from them. Here are my lessons from the last few months. Palliative Care Palliative care is often confused with hospice. Read here (https://www.sehealth.org/services/palliative-care/) to understand better. What I do know is that being on palliative care definitely makes it easier to transition to hospice care from an administration perspective. Mom for instance still hopefully has several years ahead of her, but she qualifies due to her stage of Alzheimer's. With pall... read more

So… we rolled-in to our garage around 1am today. Sunday was a long travel day. I was up by 6am… we were off the ship around 8:30am and at the Seattle airport by 9am. The Seattle airport was packed. When I say packed I mean… historically crowded. The locals were freaking out about it. I’ve been in this airport four or five times and I’ve never seen it like this EVER. However, there were probably 4 ships that came into port today and it’s not like these things aren’t known months ahead of time but TSA was not ready for us and it was a madhouse. It took us almost two and a half hours to get from where the ship’s bus dropped us off at the airport doors to get our bags checked and through ... read more

Not much to write today. Our next scheduled stop is Winterset Iowa; however, the drive is a bit longer than we'd like with the travel trailer. We drove a short drive up through Missouri to the halfway mark, Thousand Hills State Park. This state park is 3,000 acres and feature a beautiful lake in the forest and Native American petroglyphs. We took many walks in attempt to see deer but did not see any during the daylight. After dark Nate took the Segway and was able to spot a few. We got up early the next morning again to find the deer but still nothing. It was a bit rainy and chilly out. I enjoyed watching Nate as he stood in the field with his arms out wide as many swallows flew all around him.... read more

Today was AWESOME!! We got up early and got to Lone Elk Park before it even opened. I'm so glad that we did because as soon as we went through the gate, we saw two deer being cute together. After that we came upon a gaggle of geese, babies included, all cute and furry. And to think it couldn't get better, we came upon a herd of male elk. After this we came into the bison habitat area where we were fortunate enough to see a calf bison with its mother. It was so nice because the wildlife was accustomed to being around vehicles, so they were not startled. This gave us plenty of time to watch them and take photos. Plus being the first visitors, we didn't have to worry about being rushed from other ... read more

Today thankfully Nate was able to get into the dentist to fix the crown that he had lost the day before. Thank you to the Marion RV campground host being gracious enough to let us stay on the site for a couple hours over check out time. Thankfully we were still able to get back on the road by 1:00. The drive through St Louis was a little precarious since we hit during rush hour. We finally did get to our campsite. We paid a bit extra so that we could relax by the water, however, we did not plan to find the truck battery dead after lunch/dinner. The first Walmart we went to did not have the battery in stock. By the time we arrived at the second Walmart it was getting very late, and ... read more
