Good Morning! It's official, our backs are BROKEN! How did this happen? Joanna and I feel like we have been hit repeatedly with a baseball bat on our lower backs :( Today we are going to go drive through St. Louis and go see the Arch. We really can't do any real sightseeing because we can't leave the cats in the car. After that we will make the drive to Indianapolis and look around there. ... read more

Too tired to blog....here are some pictures... It was a long day of driving, but full of beautiful country! Something is going on in St. Louis and EVERY hotel is sold out. We were lucky to find one with a room available after hours of searching today. Our backs are KILLING us! Therefore, we have decided to stop in Indianapolis tomorrow, which is a 3 hour drive, in order to give us a little break. ... read more

We woke up this morning to the smell of homemade waffles and bacon drifting through the house. Although we weren’t traveling today it was to be a jam-packed day of activities and one that I was looking forward to. After breakfast, the first item on the agenda for the ladies was an appointment at Washington University. Sarah, Jill, and her mom (Grammie) were scheduled to take a tour and talk to some people in the admissions department. As for me, I had a World Cup soccer game to watch (it turned out to be a great game with the USA winning and moving through to the next elimination round). About noon the ladies picked me up for a much anticipated (by Jill) lunch at Steak n’ Shake (one of her favorite hangouts when ever she goes ... read more

I was a bit disappointed at missing out on the opportunity to be bumped last night. Being as late as it was I was looking forward to the idea of decompressing with a good nights sleep in a nice hotel room with cable TV and dinner on the airline. That and the $400 voucher was nice to look forward to. However, it seems there were a few no-shows so the offer was not followed up on. What was weird was that as they were boarding the plane I asked a counter clerk several times whether I was still to be bumped. She gave me a perplexed look and said she didn't know what I meant. I asked if the flight was still over-booked. She said she had never heard that term before. I used a hotel ... read more

On our second day we woke up early, had breakfast at the Best Western, checked out, and then left to explore Hot Springs for the morning. We started by checking out the actual Hot Springs that (one that has not been tapped for a bathhouse). They were very hot, not surprisingly, and fun to dip my hands into. We then headed to the top of the Mountain Observation tower within the National Park. The indoor level included an interesting museum that covered the history of the area. The outdoor observation was also amazing and gave me many scenic views and photos to take. After that, we drove around some of the mountain roads and took a brief hike. We then started the 6.5 hour drive to St. Louis. Once there, we dropped our things at Jerome's ... read more

We have one week to go before our journey abroad begins. I am remembering what it was like to travel to France for the first time in college, and memories of discovering so much about myself are coming to the surface. My husband teases me that my first passport picture when I was 19 looks like I am thinking, "France, where's that?" I hope that our students have the same kind of eye-opening journey that I did, and that they are inspired to make international travel a part of their adult lives. In the meantime, we are busy packing and making last-minute arrangements for notre sejour! ... read more

We have had a proper chance to check out the hotel now and are pretty impressed. The breakfast buffet is included. You can make your own waffles, there's fruit, porridge, cooked stuff etc plus drinks. In the evening they also lay on a light meal, plus free beer and wine. The food is pretty basic - a nice salad, then a main course which changes every day. We ate there tonight as it was hammering with rain and pretty cold out but as there's no choice, we wont always bother. There is a small indoor pool and a nice hot jacuzzi. After all the travelling yesterday and sleeping scrunched up, Lewis was in a terrible state this morning and could hardly move. We sat him in the jacuzzi for a while, did some stretches and made ... read more

Mlle. Bridwell put together a wonderful pique nique for the West/North Abroad group, and we had a super time! Students jumped right into the introduction activities with gusto, and we learned the names of group members from each school within just a few minutes. The relay activities were definitely hilarious to watch, and it looked like they were fun to take part in as well. There was snack food a plenty as we headed "a la bouffe" in mixed groups to get to know each other better as we ate and chatted. The final scavenger hunt was filled with laughter, a few wrong turns, and finally the joyful discovery of the "tresors" hidden by Mlle. Bridwell. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and enjoy the beautiful day at Faust Park! ... read more

We are just a few weeks away from our visit to France. I'm getting excited like I always do before an oveseas trip, and it will be doubly fun to be with students as they discover the beauty of actually being in France for the first time. We have our next meeting in mid-April; it will be a picnic so that the students from both schools can get to know each other before we embark on the journey together. We will update the blog as much as possible during the trip and add pictures whenever we can!... read more
