Oh my goodness life is so filled with unexpected adventures. So glad to be back blogging about some of these humbling, fun filled, real life experiences with those who may take an interest in reading this blog. Day one, our adventure begins as Sisters in Christ, (Pam & I) embark on what at the time appears to be no different than any planned travels to and from a determined destination. My heart is connected to helping and supporting my dearest friend in doing some much needed upgrades on a family Lake House located at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. All knowing that the house has not really had TLC for close to 20 years or so. Each of us are not quit sure what exactly to expect upon arrival. A close relative has been ... read more

We are here and all is well. We traveled to the Ozarks and what started out as a 5.5-6 hour trip turned over 9 hours. We hit two construction zones which were not to bad, then we hit severe weather where we were basically at 10 MPH on the highway(along with everyone else), then we hit the accident. We had lunch outside the truck standing on the Interstate for 1.5 hours. Lake Ozark and the camp ground are very nice. The weather however is not cooperating well so we are spending time at camp and just using as relaxing time. Monday we did sneak in a great bike ride which gave me the idea of renting some wave runners and cruise the lake and that is what we did. We then finished up the day going ... read more

This will be a relatively short one as we recently enjoyed a weekend of ‘Fi-Camping’ (read: Staying in a log cabin) in the Missouri bushland. It was a good catch up with the Jamieson’s, and what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas….. The US military does a fantastic job of supporting its service men and women through the provision of morale and welfare based services. One such service is a camp ground and recreational area at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. The Lake of the Ozarks is actually a man-made lake which serves as a reservoir and source of water for power generation. At the time of its creation it was the largest man-made lake in the world and remains the largest in the US. To provide a little perspective, it has more ... read more

MMark posting: Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! I started this blog on Saturday morning but it is now Monday and we are on the road to Denver. Liz is driving the first segment through KC tp I-70 that will take us through Kansas and all the way to Denver. Before I recap our week at the lake I’d like to take a moment to point out a couple of National Lampoon moments from the past 24 hours (and actually 15 minutes) - just call me Clark and Liz can be referred to as Ellen. • On Friday I took my car to have an oil change in anticipation of the trek to Jackson. It was overcast and a bit rainy so I had my headlights on. When I pulled into the driveway and parked the ... read more

Mark posting: It's a beautiful day at the Icenogle Lakeside Villa where Liz and I are regrouping before the rest of our trip commences. We will spend the week organizing our belongings, carving pumpkins, attending a Camdenton High School football game (Liz is beside herself that any high school game be played on Saturday morning/afternoon as Xaverian often does) and even constructing a headboard for Liz's bed here at the Villa. I will cover our tentative travel schedule at the end of the blog - in the meantime, here is a recap of the second leg of our move: On Sunday we finished our move by driving the U-Haul and Civic from Memphis to Harrisonville, MO where most of our belongings will reside for the next several months. The second leg of the trip was half ... read more

The first part of June Ken came to STL and we spent a great two weeks together. We took a day trip to Ha Ha Tonka State Park (S.E. part of the Lake of The Ozarks). There are many great trails and a super cool old castle. Well, it's not a real old castle. Built the first part of the 20th century, but the material where bought in from europe (whoa). It caught fire and burnt twice. Finally after three different owners, it was made into a state park. We toured a Frank Lloyd Wright house that is about 2-3 miles from our home in St. Louis (very cool). I liked it more than Ken did. One day I dragged Ken to the Cahokia Mounds in Ill. The mounds were first settled by Late Woodland Indians ... read more

If I leave here tomorrow Would you still remember me? For I must be travelling on, now, 'Cause there's too many places I've got to see. Just went to my last breakfast at the Lake for a while, as we leave today to go to StL and then tomorrow i fly to DC for PCV and then to Nicaragua. Mmm Wee Chef biscuits and gravy. Good food. Good friends. Rare to have so many of us here at one time. Christina is teaching at Osage and Liz and Kristy are home for vacay. Caught up with Shayla the other day at Casa de Loco winery. Leslie and Dusty were here last week and we hung out; also got to see Kelly and her very pregnant state. Cassi! Where are you??? Just missing you! Tonight is going ... read more

Although mbaade is missing Beijing like whoa, she is also happy to be back in the Ozarks, even if for just this brief time. She has finally come to terms with the fact that she was born at the Lake and will hopefully die here someday, as she does indeed plan to move back here permanently… once her wanderlust is satisfied, that is. Actually, mbaade’s not sure that her need to move will ever be fully satiated and guesses that she will have to close shop for a month each year and go travel slowly in some other time zone. Speaking of time zones, she is quite thrilled to be back in the same time zone as her family and friends, despite the fact that they all live different lives in different countries. The very exciting ... read more

After 40 hours of travelling, made it home. And although i love Beijing, i love the Ozarks, too, and was so glad to be driving through them again. Tis 2:00 and am doing laundry and then am turning in to deal with jetlag for a while. Also, damn this bed is soft! So used to hard Chinese beds... i'm siiiiiiking...... read more

Missourah story of the night: So it's midnight. I've just finished watching the season finale of SNL up at my parent's house and am walking down to the guest house where I've been living for the past year. The GH is about a rugby pitch's length down the hill from my PH. It's dark, but the sky is beautiful with the full moon among the clouds. I usually walk down in the dark, without a flashlight. Two of our cats usually accompany me down to the GH because I let them in and fed them during the winter and now they're used to it. Sometimes the dogs accompany me, too, and they take off on a late night stroll through the woods after they've walked me down. I like having the dogs and cats with me, ... read more
