From Memphis we travelled southeast to Tupelo, the birthplace of Elvis and then joined the Natchez Trace Parkway which was a mail route from Natchez to Nashville before the use of the Mississippi for transport. During the early 1800's the Native Americans were displaced to Oklahoma so the white settlers could take over the land. The route is very scenic including a cypress swamp and the town of Kosciusko - the birthplace of Oprah Winfrey. We ended the day in Clinton outside Jackson. Some houses dated back to 1850. In various places we have sampled local foods. Today it was catfish, grits and fried pickles. Tomorrow we continue towards Natchez.
