Yesterday Tom and Olivia took our two mini dachshunds, Alice and Angelina, over to Susan K's house who is watching them while we are gone. What a gift to have her do this for us! Everything went well with their new friend, Rosie the bearded collie. A dose of children's benadryl before they went eased the transition. We will miss them a lot. Yesterday I sold my car. I was kind of sitting on the fence about it, then we decided on Saturday to sell it. We've been following an Iona Prayer Book and yesterday's reading included Luke 18: 18-29 about selling possessions. Then when I came home from selling it, the afternoon reading inluded "In our own day, Christ is constantly calling us to move away from many of the things which we feel are ... read more

Woke up with a sore head today, dragged myself out of bed and packed my stuff. We tidied up the ranch and loaded the van for a long day of driving. I went and took a few photos of the ranch as I was too drunk last night and shortly after we were on our way. We drove nearly all day long today and didn’t stop till around 4:40PM to have a look at the large green giant statue in Minnesota and get some rude photos with some strange cut out cardboard midgets. We got in the van and continued driving until we finally got to our campsite. We couldn’t be bothered cooking tonight so Jon went out and bought some pizzas with the food kitty cash. For the rest of the night we played some ... read more

We leave this week in three days! All will be soon be well when we are on the plane and can exhale! I looked at the Cradle of Love website Sept 13th and was astounded at the work that has been done on the volunteer apartment. They are working at a record breaking pace to complete it. If you would like to see pictures go to the website at www.cradleoflove.com. The baby home recently received four new children, so is very full with 34. We were also acknowledged during the service at our church today and it was wonderful to have family and friends present with us. We are going to Tanzania, and the Bishop of the Diocese of George in South Africa was at our church today. The world truly is a magical place and ... read more

I know this experience should be life changing for me and a lot of people would love to have an opportunity like this. It's just very hard for me to adjust to this whole trip actually happening. It hasn't really sunk in for me that I'm leaving in a couple days. I like how things are going right now and I don't want them to change. I don't really have a choice whether I'm going or not. I'm going and that's final. I hope that this trip can work out and that I have a great time there. I hope I can meet a bunch of people when I'm there and I hope that I can help other people and have a great time doing it. Even though this wasn't at the top of my list ... read more

We are exactly one week from our departure day!!! We are feeling some anxiety about leaving and somewhat overcome with details of preparation. Olivia's school and teachers have been in contact with us regarding maintaining her education using a similar curriculum. They have been so helpful. Especially her English teacher from last year. He is creating a curriculum for creative writing that would give her credit for the elective provided she turn in reccomended assignments and maintain a daily blog. Also, we just found out that her science textbook is on CD format so that is one less big item to take. Our fundraising continues however Anne and Tom made a decision to refocus their energy from the fundraising to packing and preparation. We can always continue once we get there. We have reached 150% of ... read more

We are getting closer and closer. We are continuing our fundraising for the Orphanage and today received a very generous donation that we weren't expecting. It is such a gift to realize how much support is there for us and for the work we will be doing. Anne and Tom met with the Hopkins North Jr High Principal today to discuss what Olivia will need to do to meet curriculum goals Olivia will need to acheive before she comes back. She will be able to get a creative writing credit by publishing a daily journal on line so expect another link so you can read what Olivia is experiencing. The school was very supportive. They will allow us to take text books and syllabus so that Olivia can continue with the regular curriculum and hopefully not ... read more

Awoke to a beautiful morning on the banks of the Mississippi. Little did I know what loomed ahead. Cold morning, but beautiful. Drove West trying to get out of the Northwoods onto the plains only to be meet with made rain and temperatures between 45 and 50 degrees. I thought it was just going to be a sprinkle...Then the skies opened up and I was soaked before I could put on rain gear. I pushed West hoping if I keep riding West it would end...To no avail...Frozen I ducked into a hotel in Crookston, MN at 2:00 for my shortest ride of the trip 175 miles so far. I had average 300-400 miles per day. Being frozen in the riding position the front desk staff thought I was crazy. I went up stairs and sat in ... read more

Awoke to a dismal morning. I could not call Emily last night because their was no cell service in the Wisconsin Northwoods. I road 2 miles out of the campsite and had to put on rain gear. A real slow but steady rain began. I went North as fast as possible hoping the sun would break. In the rain, I managed to drive and then hike 10 minutes to Wisconsins largest peak, Timms Hill, less than 2,000 ft above sea level. Finally, when I hit the lake the clouds started to break. The lakeshore was incredible. So incredible that I tried to drive my motorcycle down a desolate beach only to get the bike buried in the said. A KLR650 loaded down with 65 punds of gear on the back just suck in the loss dunes. ... read more
