Grade: Flat with a few hills
Condition of trail: Very good
Out of the 60 or so trails that we have biked, portions of The Little Traverse Wheelway, would rate somewhere in the top 10.
The trail runs from Charlevoix around the bay through Petoskey and to Harbor Springs.
It is paved and the width varies from wide to very wide!
Washrooms, water and parking can be found at many of the parks that it passes through.
If starting from Charlevoix head for Shanahan Park where you will find parking washrooms and water.
The terrain is hilly in a few places. Resort Bluff has spectacular scenery.
Passing by Bay Shore and East Harbor to Petoskey you have more breathtaking scenery
of Little Traverse Bay.
Sometimes the trail runs beside
a street and then ducks behind heavily wooded areas.
Magnus Park in Petoskey is the half way point and you should spend some time exploring
the harbor and parklands.
At Spring Lake Park you can connect with the North Central Tail as well or continue past Petoskey State Park.
Between the State Park and the airport is a rather long hill. The rest of the trail leading in to Harbor Springs runs along the
highway and not that interesting.
The village of Harbor Springs, however is worth exploring.
The trail head is at Hoyt Street Community Park.
