Dear All Greetings again from London, writing up my fifth blog entry on my travels through New England. This time I'm writing about my very off-the-beaten track journey through the peripheral parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts. I wasn't exactly on the international travellers' track before either, but this time I felt that I was certainly making my own trail through the region. I loved every ... Read Full Entry

A Sheffielder in Sheffield

International Travels Track
Off the beaten path is often the best. I loved your story about riding the Yale bus. Very smart. There are some great roller coasters in Ohio and California. I'll give you details when you head that way. I love the photo at the Sheffield post office. I'm glad you made it. You explored some places we haven't been to.

International Travels
Thanks Merry. This part of my trip very much felt like treading new travelling ground, I very much enjoy being able to do this ? Details about rollercoasters in Ohio and California sounds grand if I head those ways, I imagine my US plans will hopefully include them at some point. Thanks for reading ?

Many have walked the entire distance. It is a tough one.

Ah, indeed. I've read Bill Bryson's account. It must certainly be an experience. I was content to just walk a few metres.

Always Impressive!
Alex, I never tire of reading your travel blogs, and I always find them impressive -- so well written, so easy and fun to read. AND, it's impressive to learn how much you've seen and absorbed on your travels. Though the places you've visited are not exactly in "my own backyard", I have never visited Connecticut or Massachusetts for any length of time. Having only been to Boston and a few other places in that state, there's still so much to see so I enjoyed the virtual tour with you. Same with seeing Hartford, etc, through your eyes. (Taking the free Yale bus -- inspired!) Can't wait to read you following entries!

Thank you!
Thank you Sylvia for your very encouraging comment, I really appreciate it. I just loved my travels in New England, and found the people so very friendly. I certainly hope to see much more of the amazing United States of America in future years, there are so many distinct regions and areas to explore there. Thank you again for your lovely comment, and for reading ?

The Mark Twain House and Museum

I guess I could enjoy that museum
I have read two or three of his books and I like his story telling. I guess I could enjoy that museum. /Ake

The Mark Twain House and Museum

Mark Twain
It was a wonderful way to find out more about a man I have often admired. The house seemed to represent his character and imagination.

Car
So pleased to see you using a car; I mean I know its not good for the environment, but you certainly do your bit with using public transport and miles of walking. How interesting to see another Sheffield albeit a much different one to back home. Also cool to see Mark Twain's house and the museum opportunities although a shame the Dr Seuss museum was closed.

Car
Thanks Alan, and thanks so much for reading and commenting on my New England blogs 😊 Indeed, I generally prefer public transport as it really helps me to get to know a country, and I love looking out of the window on a long journey. But this rental car experience was just great too, and I think will be a great option on future trips to explore further. It was certainly a different kind of Sheffield, and the Mark Twain house was amazing. I was happy with the Dr Seuss sculpture garden at least 😊
