My step-father Ned drove us to Lynn, Massachusetts on Saturday, where we picked up my eldest "little brother" (a year younger than me) from the sheltered living situation where he resides due to mental illness. He was in the military and is eligible for this great program due to his service. We all had lunch at a nearby waterfront restaurant, where we were joined by David, one of my step-brothers. Later that afternoon, we traveled north-west to Rockport, Massachusetts on Cape Ann, to spent a few days with an old friend from my Paris days, Susan. Those of you followed the recent Mexico blogs, might remember that we got together for the first time in 35 years in Puerto Vallarta this winter. Susan's family has a long history in the area, and her two daughters now ... read more

Tuesday:After a crack of dawn alarm (6.30am) we chucked any remaining 'stuff' into the cases, checked out and hailed a taxi. 7.30am saw us tucking into muffins on Penn Station - so much for yesterday's healthy eating. In boating terms 'sheltered' means you're lucky if there's a patch of land on 2 or 3 sides, with prevailing winds coming from the land side. We're situated in a classic, jig-saw puzzle style rock basin with a huge, semi-submerged breakwall making up the fourth wall a mile or two off. Should be ideal but we noticed that one bunch of sailors got fed up with the rock n'roll pace and fled this morning at 3 am. I must admit thiat this is another touristy town, with surely the ... read more

If you have been to a beach in India, beaches here are nothing compared to what we have there. Yet, beaches are special here, because we can enjoy the waters only for three- four months in a year. Our initial plan was to go to Gloucester Beach, but since we didn’t find parking, we drover further along the highway and reached Rockport. Rockport has three or more beaches and we went to one called “front beach". This beach is at a walk-able distance from the Rockport town. Parking is limited near the main town, but the good thing is that the Rockport town provides free parking a little away from the town and also provides shuttle service from the parking lot to the beach. The beach is nice and clean, although a little small compared to ... read more
