The confidence I was feeling earlier in the week has slowly diminished as today approached. Now I'm sitting at my sister's, eating chicken dinos, bag packed and ready to go scared out of my mind. It's sad to think that in 24 hours from now I'll still have 8 hours of flying time remaining. I won't be arriving in Bangkok until 12:35PM on Sunday, so expect another blog Sunday or Monday. Til then, enjoy your weekend and we'll chat soon. Here goes nothing! Love, Thai Kho... read more

No more bottle or draft, walking to my car at 2AM with $250 in my pocket (in 1s and 5s), bad pick up lines or even friendly faces---I've just worked my last shift at the bar. At least, until I need to save for my summer 2009 trip, but for now, let's get through 2008. I've officially bought every item I'll need to take with me and this week is all about meeting up with friends to enjoy my last few days before the journey begins. A common question that people are asking is, "What are you bringing with you?” I've dedicated this blog entry to answer that precise question, taking you through my entire backpack, item by item. Kelty Backpack- 2650 cubic inches. I tried to get a slightly larger version, but when the REI ... read more

Well... There we were riding in our chauffeured car zipping through the backroads of Chelsea like only Kristin could. I was half asleep as we purposely stayed up late in order to sleep on the plane and try to get on SE Asia time. Got to the airport...no problem (end Eric)...boarded the plane...no problem...prepared for take off and after twenty minutes or so of taxiing...BIG problem. There appeared to be some mechanical issue, as in the "nose" of the plane was only steering in one direction. We inevitably had to deplane and return to the terminal to figure out an alternate plan. Needless to say after a couple of hours in line with an extremely (truly) helpful American Arilines rep we were rebooked on a flight for 6:30pm that evening, putting us about 3/4 of a ... read more

Welcome to my first ever blog! I'm not sure where to start, so here goes nothing. A few years ago, while I was living in NJ, I met tons of cool people. One of which inspired me to truly live my life to the fullest. When I first met Judy she was about to take off on a 6 month trip around the world, completely on her own. Reading about her adventures made me want to pack my bag and jump on the next airplane to a country I had never considered traveling to before. Well, who would have thought that at my new school I would meet just the right people to make that adventure a reality. My first day at the Brooks I met two of the most amazing people, Eric and Mike, who ... read more

Thurs 27th Dec: Had a great day today. Started off a busy schedule with a drink (oops!) By getting a free hour tour of the Samuel Adams Brewery. It used to be a Kochs brewery using German ingredients, and was changed to Samuel Adams in 1984, when the owner decided to rename it after Patriot and former brewer Sam Adams. The tour was very interesting - found out that hops is part of the marijuana family and when you crush it up it sure smells the same - maybe that explains the process of beer turning bad with time/exposure to light as skunking! The best part was the tasting (naturally) at the end where we held it up to the light to see if we could see our fingers through it, then smelt it for aroma, ... read more

Wed 12 th December - After work wrote chronicle III then had to go out to fix Kev’s tenant’s handrail out in Watertown (he has a spare 2 bed flat for $1400 a month (less than what we pay now and closer to town, read civilistaion - oh well!) which took an hour and a half, so after we decided to stop for a few pints of good ole Guinness in PJ Ryan’s pub in Sommerville. The best bits so far are Cambridge (including Central Square and Harvard), Brighton (bars and the New Balance factory - see Friday), and Somerville, including Inman Square, Davis Square - cool shops and bars but no such visible Squares, strange, Porter, and Prospect hill which has a US flag from its castle with a Union Jack in the corner - ... read more

Wed 5th December - after yesterday’s minus 10 day, today was a little bit easier on the face, my frosty shrivelled balls had time to thaw out a bit. Was in a bit of a bad mood again today - the distance from town and life, a bit of isolation, waiting for Laura to come home with the laptop so I can check me emails before an early bed, Medford being a dry town too means no pub to while away hours, ouch! Living with two girls can also be a bit tricky but the best said about the hair all over the bathroom and bog roll usage the better - I am hardly the best house mate ever! Forget Blue Monday this is more like Blue Wednesdays. So when I got home I rang my ... read more

Monday 26th November 2007 - the only other thing of significance that happened today was that I went and took a few photos of Fenway Park, then met an Irish bloke called Enda in Cheers (the pub from TV show), who was a Kerryman in the Irish Army who looked like Ealmonn Holmes and was waxing lyrical about peacekeeping in the Lebanon, which was pretty funny as I thought all Irish Army blokes did was patrol the borders with the north and maybe meet up now and again with the Bolivian Navy or the Swiss for a few neutral pints and a laugh. Tuesday 27th Nov - I went and checked out the museum of fine arts in Boston on the recommendation of my best beaverette Heather, whose mum lives here. It was quite embarrassing because ... read more

UntitledWell, I finally got this blog set up. I would have done it sooner, but who really wants to hear about needles the doctor insisted on sticking in my arms. I have spent the past month researching all the places we will go...maybe. It seems that even though SE Asia is a mere 480,000 sq. mi. (approx an 1/8 of the size of the U.S. and for you New Englanders, NE is 70,000 sq. mi.) covering all of that territory will be difficult as transportation is unreliable. This is yet to be seen though. Laos, for example, doesn't have a railroad system AT ALL. It can't be any worse than the road to Timbukto...can it? I am always interested in how people live in these far off places of the world, duh why else would i ... read more
