So bear with me if there are misspelled words and the grammar is incorrect. Thanks for reading. Also, I've changed the format for the most recent entry to be on top.We bought a few stuff at the grocery store and came back to the hotel to check in and settle our stuff. I took a brief nap. Glenn was working on our AT&T account. We had the Olympics turned on the TV.At 4pm, we left the hotel, and drove towards Provincetown. Here we stopped at the Pilgrim Monument and Museum. Dad and Karen walked up to the top of the monument. I elected to stay below ... read more

Mais ... read more

Our next stop will be Provincetown, at the North tip of Cape Cod. To get there, we will leave Buzzards Bay and head East through the Cape Cod Canal into Cape Cod Bay. This is a 40 mile trip and normally we would do it in two stages, stopping overnight at the Sandwich marina, very conveniently located at the Cape Cod end of the canal. But rain is forecast for Tuesday, so we make the 40 mile run in one go from Marion to Provincetown. Tides in Buzzards Bay are four feet (from low to high). Because of the geography of Cape Cod, the tides in Cape Cod Bay are ten feet and high tide arrives there three or four hours after high tide in Buzzards Bay. The canal joins these two bodies of water. There ... read more

Provincetown is 20 miles from Sandwich and more than 20 miles from any other port. So we visit here infrequently and plan for a stay of several days. If you do not want to pay for dock space, Provincetown Marina also has comfortable moorings and launch service. Anchoring is possible round the edges of the enormous bay and I have anchored a couple of times. But I never found a good anchoring spot that was anywhere close to town. And tides here are ten feet or more, which makes it very tricky to leave a dinghy on the beach for more than a couple of hours. So these days, we pay for a mooring or dock-space. If you need provisions, walk in either direction along Commercial Street and you will find a little general store that ... read more

Hello Everyone. Sally and I just returned from a three day trip to Cape Cod. With summer winding down, we wanted to get this last trip in before we have to leave Connecticut for our drive back to Phoenix. We leave two weeks from next Monday which is September 10th. We will drive to Nashville where my sister has purchased tickets for us all to go to the Grand Ol' Oprey on September 15th. We are discussing a side trip to Branson Missouri but once we get that close to home, Sally may want to head back to Phoenix to see our two Grand-daughters. That's been the hardest part of the summer for Sally as she has really missed the girls terribly. When we left we told them that when school started again, it wouldn't be ... read more

I had come in from Montréal, QC by greyhound bus on an 8 hour overnight trip and arrived at the Boston south station in pooring rain. The forecast didn't look promising; For that Monday till Wednesday that I had my rental car booked for it was supposed to be cloudy and raining :( I took the T (silver line) to Logan airport, and hauled my bags to the rental car desk where I was told to deposit myself in the free bus that would take me to the parking lot. Upon arrival, I was first asked if I wouldn't want to consider changing my choice of car and my attention was pointed at a supersized, bling-bling, American style, tjizzle-my-nizzle-on-the-televizzle-kinda car that would fit in a driveway in LA... I kindly refused and kept my European sized vehicle ... read more

The only reason I’m on Cape Cod is to relax before enduring the Kafkaesque Gehenna that is international travel. I hate to bore you, but Cape Cod is as delightful as everyone says it is. And though the comfort of my current lodging is unparalleled, I can’t really recommend it to any random wayfarer -- I'm couch surfing with some friends (thanks be to Dorria, Chris and Zoe). A few highlights of the Cape: Sundae School, a popular local ice cream shoppe that served me a bowl of flavor so exotic I can’t even remember what it wasWellfleet Bookstore & Restaurant, probably the best raw oysters I’ve ever had (admittedly, I’m not much a connoisseur of oysters -- but then again, oysters are often served to you swimming in their own urine, so who ... read more

The Cape in winter…..searching for lighthouses. You may need to click on a couple of the photos to enlarge. We are carefully walking with our heads down looking at the great granite boulders as we head out on the jetty in the direction of the lighthouses. The squawk of the seagulls can be heard all around, along with the swooshing of the water lapping against the jetty. We stop to look up at the sky, water, birds………we look down as we take steps on the jagged rocks. They have piled these massive granite boulders to create this walkway but you really have to pay attention to where you place your feet, as the rocks are uneven and there are gaps between the boulders. One false step and a ligament could tear or worse….a broken bone from ... read more
