A short sleep through the night didnt seem to affect my ability to get up on the morning as I woke up earliest, showered and helped myself to an apple and some toast for breakfast.
It wasnt a great selection, but it was the best breakfast I'd had since leaving San Jose.
I was awake so much earlier than everyone else that I even had time to clean out the car and briefly check my emails before we were ready to begin our day visiting Boston.
The first place we visited was Harvard University, the oldest and most famous university in the United States. The drive there showed us how much snow the snow storm had dropped over the east coast with at least a foot of snow covering everything but the roads and people obviously were inconvenienced by the snowfall. The streets were narrower in Boston and the houses more similar to those from UK showing that New England really is more influenced by the UK in some ways more than anywhere else in US.
Harvard University was very classical/traditional looking with grandiose buildings and a wall surrounding the exclusieve campus with large gates allowing entry. The campus was
open to the public and there were many tourists like ourselves viewing the campus and buildings and taking photographs. The place looked more magical with the snow.
We opted to visit the art museum, but after discovering hat it was temporarily moved for renovation and cost an entry fee, we left - but I did manage to sneak a peak at some of the paintings and one of the lecture halls.
We returned to the car and head for the USS Constitution Museum. A museum dedicated to providing naval history of the US. It was lcoated by the marine base on the harbor. The museum wasnt that interesting but did tie in well with the US history course I took. We left soon after arriving and were all glad the museum was free as it was not worth paying for.
We drove around Boston more and then returned by the harbour to eat in a small seafood restaurant which had a fantastic view of Boston and the harbour. It was on a pier and you could watch the boats sailing in and the planes flying overhead. The sky was blue withe few clouds and the sun was about
to set. We left at sunset and drove through Boston downtown to take some more photos and see the buildings and architecture.
The state hall was by far the most impressive unique building in the city.
We left Boston and were stuck in rush hour traffic for the drive to the hotel. It was only 6pm but I was beginning to feel tired from the lack of sleep I'd had the previous night. I slept I the car for a while until we arrived at the motel, Which was surprisingly nice for a 2 star motel. An early night is in store to refresh me for the travel ahead tomorrow.
