Thursday, December 21/ BWI Scott & I were married on December 9th, in Key West, Florida. During the festivities, we were frequently asked where we would be going for our honeymoon. Having traveled extensively over the 6 1/2 years of our life together, we decided to head somewhere different for our romantic getaway. To a hotel built of ice & snow... The ICEHOTEL is situated in the village JukkasjÀrvi, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The heart and backbone is the River Torne flowing freely through the unspoilt wilderness. Covered with a meter thick ice layer winter time the river is the source of all our art, architecture and design. The pure water and the steady movement of the river creates the clearest ice possible." -http://www.icehotel.com/ HONEYMOON (Miriam Webster) Etymology: from the idea ... read more

Twas the Night Before Disney when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring except me and my spouse. The suitcases were open and lay on the bed. While I checked the Disney boards one last time to see what they said. The memory cards were packed and so were the Crocs. I had even rememberd the one-gallon zip locks. I put an extra Binky in my purse. And the downy-wrinkle release in plastic, lest it might burst. The ADRs have been made a long time. Six months ago we choose where we would dine. Our family is gong to stay at Caribbean Beach. The Poly would be nice but this is more within our reach. Each days events are neatly typed. Planning with the help of Tour Guide Mike had us all hyped! Joanne & Wes are on the Road Again in their Schooner. Traveling from Ballston Lake, NY to Florida. Sunday, spending the night in a Cracker Barrel. We learned that the Cracker Barrel restaurant chain allows RVers to overnight in their safe, lighted parking lots; so here we are. The restaurant has a cutesy general store and lots of folkish touches. The lot is quieter than the Flying J truck stops that we have stayed at and the food is more personalized and down homey. This stop, near exit 98 off I-95 in South Carolina, puts us within 260 miles of our goal, St. Augustine, Florida. Taking a backward look at our trip, this was a driving day from Virginia. A fun food stop was for Tex Mex fare at South of the Border. What a kitschy, ... read more

Arriving in the evening, Dan greeted me carside to help me bring in my bags and give me the kind of tour where all you have to do is stand in one spot and turn in a circle to see the wonderful and quaint apartment of Dan. Huge big screen TV on the fritz, but luckily stuck on the Sports Center channel, we sat down and caught up with small and tall talk. This buttal and rebuttal continued until his neighbor and girlfriend arrived. Quickly changed, I joined them to meet another couple, married couple, at the movie theater to see Fandangoed Borat on it's opening night. Wow. Yeah... It was surprisingly racial and forward in a lot of its statements. It was what I would call offensive and grotesque humor. You couldn't help but laugh ... read more

So I'm pretty much ready to go. I'll admit it, I'm going ever so slightly bananas over my desire to just be on my way. I'm packed, most everything is taken care of (except my gift for my host family.... that's a toughie, i'll have to consult more knowledgeable types about such things), and rob and lydia started school again. The house is pretty quiet during the day, but the last two nights have been really fun. Dad and I went out for a farewell steak, then Ari Matt and I went for a delicious tapas dinner and both times I died from the deliciousness. The problem being that now I want closure on this whole "departure" thing. But hey, two days, I can handle it! I'll just spend the time finding innovative ways to torture ... read more

Well, unfortunately, the weather this past weekend was somewhat dreary, so I didn't get a chance to go out and have any new adventures. However, the delay gave me a chance to clean out my camera's memory and I found 13 pictures from my trip to the Inner Harbor that I forgot to post. So let's re-live that adventure and hope the weather is fantastic this weekend! (Forecast says partly sunny and temps in the 80's!) ... read more

Hello y'all! I had so much fun last time in the Inner Harbor, that I decided to go on back there and check out some more of the sights... Having lived the "wild life" (har har) myself in Africa, I was amazed to see so many other creatures out and about in a big American city... It's definitely a different world here--but seeing my fellow fauna makes me feel right at home. I also want to take this chance to remind all of you checking out my blog to go ahead an click the "subscribe" link so you'll receive an email when I post a new entry! But without further ado, here are the pictures--a whopping 10 this time!!!... read more

Hello friends! Well, I've finally gotten out to my first adventure...exploring nautical history at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Specifically, I spent quite a bit of time on the historic U.S.S. Constellation...the last all-sail ship built by the American Navy, before the Civil War! It makes me wonder if in olden times, for the very first zoos, my ancestors were brought over on sailing ships like this. Quite an overpowering and fascinating thought! Luckily it was a gorgeous day and I had so much fun! But let's get to the fun stuff...the pictures! Be sure to see all 6....and stay tuned for more adventures! ... read more
