The sun comes up and presto magic, a new day! Claims today started across the Chesapeake Bay. I checked out of the motel and took off across the bay. What a beautiful drive, wish I’d had time to stop and take photos or just enjoy. But there was work to do. But it reminded me of other drives across other bays. My third claim was near the center of DC. Driving to the claim I went past the Washington Monument, I saw it when I drove in yesterday too. It was so thrilling to see. We were in DC several years ago as sightseers but I was just so excited to see the monument again. I finished up the DC claim and was off to the last claim, in the NW area. I had to take ... read more

For some unknown reason Travelblog no longer makes it easy to see all our 'fantastic' photos that we take so much time to include, title, write comments about, etc. on our blog. They are all there but not right along with the text. All you need to do is either scroll down about two pages or hit the page down key on your computer and 'voila' there are the rest of the pictures. We had not realized this until today when I asked Bill a question, "What does our blog look like to people who subscribe?" We Googled ourselves and were dismayed to see that only two of the pictures of the Puppet Museum were visible until we hunted DOWN the page and found them all sitting there virtually hidden from view. So, if you ... read more

Yes, Chesapeake Bay could be monstrous when high winds blows from the South or North, but since we left Hampton, we had very calm and enjoyable seas. We did some lovely anchorages with a complete change of sceneries each time, some with lovely properties surrounding us, other in the wild with just the flies with us, and even in farming ground with the nice smell ... read more

Today started off with a cold and wet reminder that we are not in Texas anymore, and that it can still get cold in May. This morning, after a good hot breakfast at the Mount Vernon Hotel, we were awakened by a cold rainy walk to the light rail. To make things even more interesting, our rain jackets have mysteriously been left behind. Luckily, the kids' jackets were still packed and they stayed warm and relatively dry. The 35 minute ride to the end of the line dropped us of at the Cromwell station, where we had to run to the #14 bus to Annapolis. This 1 hour tour down Gov. Ritchie Hwy ended in the heart of historic Annapolis, the capitol of Maryland. Amazingly, the entire ride only cost about $1.50 for a one-way ticket. ... read more

Heading South -2010 After a very hot and humid summer docked in Baltimore at the Anchorage Marina in the Canton section of the inner harbor, Double-Wide and crew shoved off and headed South. We left on the 4th of October under partly cloudy skies and a light westerly wind. Our goal for the first day was to get as far down the bay as possible yet find a secure anchorage for the night on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay. This was important because the NOAA weather forecast called for building west winds overnight reaching 20-25 knots the following day. As we reached under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, just north of Annapolis, we heard our old friends from the Bahamas, Bill & Sue on “Nice & Easy” on the VHF radio. They have a condo ... read more

Thursday, September 30 - Wednesday, October 6, 2010 We woke up this morning to a downpour and it looks like it will continue all day. They even have tornado warnings out for the area but so far the highest we have seen the winds is about 25 mph. Our original plan today was to go to shore as West Marine was having a big sale and we have a few things on our list of things to get. When we saw how hard it was coming down, we changed our plans and figure we will head over later today if it lightens up. Instead figured it was a great day to make a big pot of soup. Bob got some of the research books we have on board to figure out a few things about the ... read more

Since the last entry we left Havre de Grace and headed to the east side of the Chesapeake and anchored in Worton Creek. We had a great 4 ½ hour sail - this is what we had been hoping for but hadn’t expected from the weather predictions that we had - a real nice surprise. We had been given some suggested anchorages by Peter, the person docked close to us in Havre de Grace. It was great that he gave us some pointers as we are finding that we are anchoring in much shallower waters than we are used to either on Cayuga Lake or Lake Ontario. Here the water sometimes is only 6-7 feet deep in the channels that we are going down - without Peter’s tips we probably wouldn’t have tried them which would ... read more

Well, we just got back from the Annapolis boat show that was held over Columbus Day weekend. It was great to be able to wear shorts and T-shirts again as it was getting to feel like fall at home, but was summer in Annapolis - quite a bonus! We went down prepared with a very long shopping list of things we wanted for Tsamaya. We spent Friday and Saturday doing all of the research and then Sunday was the day to actually commit and place the orders. It was definitely an expensive weekend but we are very happy with the items we decided on. A few of our big ticket items were new sails, a new refrigeration system, Honda generator, stabilizing binoculars, boom vang, companionway doors and plenty of other “smaller” items. It should be like ... read more
