We are winding down our cruise of Maine for this summer and wanted to share some of the landscapes and experiences. I Wanda

We have been cruising on our Nichloson 40 pilot house sloop "I Wanda" since the summer of 1993. In the early years we cruised from Maine to the Bahamas with our teenagers and now we visit them by boat. In 2003 we crossed the Atlantic via Bermuda and the Azores, and spent 3 years cruisng the Med. Kitties have nearly always accompanied us.... full info

Rockland Jetty Lighthouse

The jetty is quite long so the walk to this light house is quite impressive along the jetty.

First National Art

It is no longer the First National Bank in Rockland but the origianl art still pleases.

Security Trust 1912

Another Bank that has been recycled in Rockland, saving the lovely bas-relief sculpture.

Tern Garden

The Good Tern Health food Store in Rockland has a charming flower garden that has many colorful edibles. Note the Swiss chard and silver blue cabbage.

Political Humor

It was after a week of particularly partisan nonsense in Waashington that we spied this sigh on Rockland's "honey wagon." Note the "good to go" addition.

Farnsworth Cemetary

Lost on a side road we found this family cemetary for the Farnsworth's whose name graces the famous Farnsworth Museum in Rockland.

The long alley

The approach to the Farnsworth Cemetary was a shady tree-lined alley.

Seal Bay Vinalhaven

This stunning anchorage is in the middle of Vinalhaven. room for many and safe in most weather it is a popular spot.

Seal Bay with fog

Well, you wouldn't be able to SEE Seal Bay if it were in the fog, but you can see it creeping in from the far end of the Bay.

North Haven's Gift Shop

A stroll on many islands will reveal art and gift shops. This one in North Haven caught my eye with the fuschia and the window display.

Robert McCloskey

A wonderful writer of children's books, mostly about Maine, Robert McCloskey was the feature of this display of classic and recent publications.

Sunrise at Perry Creek

Dawn comes early in Maine in the summer, but it is worth waking up for.

Sea Gull

Tree fungus

This mamouth fungus was on Vinalhaven. I have seen them preserved but would not know how to do it. We just admired.

Lobster traps

It is a "loive-hate" relationship that we have with these ever-present traps. We have been snagged and damaged several times, but have eaten our share of their catch as well!

Loved your lastest entry with the pics of Maine. I did recognize some of the people and boat names that you mentioned. Fond memories to be sure. Have a safe trip back and watch out for that hurricane Irene
