Geo: 43.2206, -70.5778Another great presentation from a naturalist this morning, followed by a pretty drive to Canterbury Village, NH - one of 16 "Shaker" locations in the US. Temperature was a chilly -6 deg which put the icing on the foliage colours.Along the way we disembarked to walk a short hiking trail to "The Basin", an unusual rock feature in a stream bed. And went past the "Old Man of the Mountain" a New Hampshire treasure, until he met his demise. Then on to The Cliff House, our final hotel at Ogunquit on the coast of Maine. They've saved the best for last, including farewell cocktails and a sumptuous lobster dinner. The tour has been terrific and I was very pleased with the fall colours. Off now to Waterford CT to stay with a couple we met briefly ... read more

October 25, 2015 Photos from Pemaquid Lighthouse Photos from Portland Lighthouse Photos from Nubble Lighthouse and York Beach The Bradley Inn was a wonderfully pleasant experience. We had a blissful sleep and awoke to the hope of a magnificent morning. It was still too dark to tell, but the view out our window told us it wouldn’t matter what the weather would be. This place even looks good when it’s bad. The plan was to head over to the Pemaquid Light, come back for a fine breakfast at the inn, and head to Portland Head Light for the so-so light of afternoon. We’d then check into our digs in York for a sunset series at the Cape Neddick Lighthouse. The first exposure from th... read more

Apologies for the blog free days but we have been very busy in Maine eating lobster, mooching (and I might have read a book or two...). After Salisbury we dipped into Portsmouth and dipped out again fairly quickly after realising it was a bit like Bromley only with less shops. Carried on up the coast spending a night in York, then on to Boothbay Harbour, a really pretty harbour village. We found a great campsite right on the shore and had a very peaceful time wandering about the port, looking at yachts and classic New England houses. The next morning we went to Pemaquid Point. According to the Lonely Planet, 'Along a 3500-mile coastline famed for its natural beauty, Pemaquid Point stands out...' It was a beautiful day without a cloud in the sky and the ... read more

Took a three day trip to York Beach Maine with my brother and his wife, my sister and her husband, and my mom. The weather was perfect for the entire three days. Highs in the mid 70's and lows in the mid to upper 50's at night. York Beach is about 20 miles into Maine and has been a summer vacation destination for my family for years. We went up on Sunday August 4th and stayed thru Wednesday the 7th. Went to the flea market in Londonderry New Hampshire on our first day so the women could do some purse shopping. New Hampshire as well as New York are really cracking down on the selling of knock-off purses so the selection this year was nil. We checked into our hotel in the afternoon and headed to ... read more

I liked this place. York's Wild Kingdom comprises of an amusement park and a zoo. The zoo is nice, in the sense that it has a variety of animals (some of which are boring if you are someone from the tropics like the goat, duck etc). But some animals are truly beautiful like some species of monkeys, birds like the toucan, cockatoo and the white tiger. You can even take pictures with some exotic creatures and animals like the snake (icky!) and the elephant. Then again, for someone from India, i thought it was too much to pay $ 15 for a photo with an elephant! The Butterfly garden is another attraction worth visiting. The amusement park is ideal for kids between the ages 2 to 4. The rides are designed for kids of these ages and ... read more
