We left the niceness of Maine and headed back to Boston - along the way we found the beach YAH!!! Julie was too much of a wuss to go for a swim - come to think of it so was I. The place was just like out of Jaws - the only thing missing was the shark. The drive back to Boston was no where near as bad as the drive out. We reached where we wanted to stay and asked the magical question "What is the best deal you can offer?" their best deal was $40 cheaper than the stated best deal on their website - one of the grey areas regarding US trading laws is that unless you ask that specific question they are not obliged to answer..... Anyway for a bit of surreality ... read more

We woke up this morning - It is Julie's birthday and concluded that Salem was not the place for us (we were planning to stay a couple of days) so we headed up the coast. So in 1.5 hours we had driven through Massachusetts and across New Hampshire and landed here in Maine. This place is fricking awesome - we are spending tonight in a Jacuzzi suite for $90 instead of $140 for a standard room in Salem. Kennebunkport's claim to fame is that it is the birthplace of George Bush Snr. Hence the ironic photo of the Democrat party offices. Shoping is also good and while it has been cool (last night it got to -3 c) the days are clear and sunny. Not sure what we are doing for the next couple of days ... read more

This was a trip I took with friends from Montreal back in May of this year. Lebanon (NH) is a great place to make a pit stop for lunch. Be forewarned, it might take hours to get out of that place, especially if you have women passengers!!! I shall not say anymore ... Another POI is to stop at Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury (VT). Made it down to Ogunquit Beach. Had our dinner at the famous Barnacle Billy's (Perkins Cove) restaurant. Had this delicious coconut flavoured ice cream cone at Sweet Wonder (Perkins Cove). BTW, it's the same ice cream company serving all the restaurants here. Though I suspect some places might not carry "all" the flavours. Walked along Marginal Way (pedestrian path that follows the shorelines from Ogunquit Beach to Perkins ... read more

What a FAB-U-LOUS time we had at Christmas Prelude!! It was my first visit to the Kennebunkport area and I LOVED it...it was the quintessential Maine I imagined. We got to town around 11:30 and drove to Cape Porpoise to see the Lobster Trap Tree...definitely the first lobster trap tree I've ever seen. Then we headed back in to Kennebunkport and put our name on the list for Hurricane...only had a 45 minute wait so we hit a couple shops. YUM YUM YUM doesn't even begin to describe the meal. As usual, the 3 of us ended up doing the communal meal because we all had delicious food - Maine Lobster Chowder, Five Onion Soup and Fall Harvest Soup (pumpkin, squash, cinnamon, nutmeg and cream base...it was like eating pumpkin pie), Fresh Maine Lobster Roll, Grilled ... read more
