ST. FRANCISVILLE LOUISIANA - Interesting small town in West Feliciana Parish, population 12,500 including 5,000 inmates at Angola Penitentiary. St. Francisville has a population of fewer than 2,000 but is the parish seat. They have three traffic signals. A lot of the homes and buildings are ante bellum and very beautiful architecturally. The hop on - hop off tour included a stop at the Grace Episcopal Church built in 1827 and slightly damaged in the Civil War. Weather was cloudy and relatively mild but a cold front came through and rain started after I was back on board.
There was a very good lecture by Lynn Roberts outlining her music career and talking about the various bands she sang with and, in response to a question from the audience, mentioned that she was born one day after Elvis Presley. You wouldn’t believe it if you saw and heard her.
The entertainment tonight was the New Orleans Jazz all stars, and they were. The trombone, the trumpet, the clarinet, the banjo and the piano men all had their own jazz groups and the bass and drummer were top notch also. Dinner followed, again with some service problems, but the food
and the company were all fine. After dinner, headed to the Engine Room Bar and enjoyed the pianist and guitar player entertaining with songs from “ the swinging 50’s and the sexy 60’s”, most of the people in the bar were from that era and a lot of singing along. Pleasant day and evening, tomorrow sun? Maybe. I haven’t used my sun glasses yet, but hope springs eternal.
Sayings from items in a gift shop - “We don’t stop laughing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop laughing” and “Don’t count the days, make the days count”. Enjoy, life is not a rehearsal, it’s the real thing
