Since I published a section on Paducah, Kentucky sometime ago I have acquired some additional photos and am updating the info. Paducah has just escaped the recent flooding along the Ohio and Mississippi due mainly to the flood wall which was built after the 1937 flood which took a toll on the city. The downtown are of Paducah has some retail including several restaurants however most of the old retail industry has moved to the mall area just off Interstate 24. Numerous attempts to resurrect downtown Paducah has been undertaken in past years.

The addition of the Carson Performing Arts Center a few years go has certainly improved the area around second and Kentucky Avenue, an area that formally had old warehouses, etc. The Center brings in shows and other productions throughout the year thus if your are in the Paducah area check by the Center to see what is playing. Unfortunately there are no hotels in downtown Paducah and you will have to stay along Interstate 24 where several new hotels have been built inn the past few years.

The Quit Show is held annually in downtown Paducah and there is a permanent museum that is worth your

time. It is located at 2nd and Jefferson.

The old executive Inn which was located a few blocks from downtown meet its demise a few months back and except for the auditorium the building has been demolished. Close by is the Arts District where one can find several old homes that have been restored plus there are some art shops and an occasional coffee shop or sandwich shop. Look for the area just past Jefferson Street. Several homes are currently under renovation and some are for sale. The renovation extends all the way out to Fountain avenue.

At the intersection of I-24 and US-45 there is a very nice welcome center located in an old restored home. It is worth the stop. Paducah used to be a port stop for all the river boats however since the passenger riverboats have gone out of business that attraction is missing.

Paducah once had a much larger population when I was growing up there were around 35000. The population is now closer to 25000 as families have left the inner city for the suburbs with some having left the entire area.Lots of vacate lots exist in Paducah due to this
