Was sollen wir machen? Einfach weiterfahren? Unglau... read more

February 19 and 20, 2014 Today began the longest day in history beginning with a full day of touring followed by 26.5 hours in airports and on planes coming home. The day began driving to Capitol Hill (and other Israeli government buildings). Near Capitol Hill is the Israel Museum. We visited two major parts of the museum. One had an outdoor 1:50 scale replica of the ancient City of Jerusalem 40 AD-70AD at the time of the Second Temple. The detail was outstanding and really put in perspective everything we had been visiting by foot during the week. Next door was the Shrine of the Book, a building in the shape of a Torah, with the scroll knob at the roof. Inside were hundreds a scrolls and pieces of scrolls from the Dead Sea Scroll collection. ... read more

Well, I am about 85% packed, with two suitcases and my laptop case on the spare bed. The cats are enjoying exploring the bags and using them as a napping place during the day, especially if I leave one open. Still to pack....my U.S. Cell Phone and charger, shirts, alarm clocks, a snack bag, 2 hangers, my toiletries bag, jacket, and Rxs. I just made another set of travel papers and photo copy of my passport just in case. Yesterday, we got the list of our room mates for the trip. My room mate is John McKnight.....just a name no other information. Hope he can put up with an old guy as a "roomy." Got some cash to take. They take U.S. dollars in Israel so no need for currency exchange. If you buy something, however, ... read more

I received my Israeli cell phone in today's mail. I rent the phone (10 days) which has a local Israeli number from which I can make toll free calls to the United States. Linda will also be able to call me direct dial toll free. The phone is activated automatically when I touch ground at Ben Gurion International Airport. All I have to to is turn it on and "walla" I have a phone in the Holy Land. When I get back home I Fed Ex it back to the phone company. Amazing times!... read more

It has been 25 years since I have been overseas. I was in the Philippines in 1989 for the World Evangelism Conference. For that trip I purchased new luggage, now worn out. No new luggage needed for this trip. In fact, the luggage is quite restricted. One bag, one carry-on, one purse or computer bag. I bought a used lap top for the trip so I could keep in touch by email and this blog. All of our rooms are supposed to have wifi. Other special items include a voltage converter, poncho, and a hat for the intense Middle East sun rays. I'm not use to keeping track of a hat, so I will probably have to buy one or two to replace lost ones along the way. The list of instructions on what to bring ... read more

August 28, 2013 - Wednesday A lazy day today, just needing to run into the town of Hays to do some laundry. Now this trip would be perfect, if we didn’t have to do laundry. Hahaha! The drought in Kansas is horrific, we’re told they’ve been experiencing it here in this part of Kansas since 1997. The reservoir here at the campground is totally dry, with large trees growing in it and the lake is way, way down. Hopefully they will get some relief soon. Marge is battling some Altitude Sickness from going up into the Rockies(over 12, 000’) and has a bad headache, nausea, and is feeling very tired and sleepy. We’re told it takes 48-72 hours to get over it, and today we’re up at about 48 hrs. but no let up as yet. ... read more

I FORGOT ALL ABOUT DRAWING THE MAP FOR MY PREVIOUS ENTRIES. THE MAP I POST WITH THIS BLOG IS FOR EVERYWHERE SINCE I LEFT PARK CITY The one about Corn and Hay and Oil Wells I woke up at 4:30, but there was no way I was getting out of bed that early. I took the much needed bio break (now that I am back at a more normal altitude and humidity level, my feet are starting to swell again, and when I lay down, well, what goes in works its way out……frequently). I got up at 7, and decided I didn’t want to drive facing east into the sun, so I hung around until 9. About 6 other RVs showed up sometime during the night and all were gone before me. I saw the owner, ... read more

Left Dillon at 7 am and 49 degrees, light rain. Kept the light rain all day and the temps stayed VERY unnormal. I expected coolness at 11K feet in Colorado but Salina, Kansas at 62 at 3 pm???? Last time I was thru here the end of July it was 103!! Needless to say the heated grips and Gerbings came in usefui this trip. Also had fog that was similar to the Western Coast. Stopped here for the night at the Ramada which has an Irish bar, It is recommended. They are very reasonable and also have a hot tub and sauna. Obeserved a bunch of riders along the way heading for Sturgis(I would assume). I am just not tiough enough to ride in 50 to 60 degree temps and rain wearing leathers and "do rags". ... read more

Ah, the wide open plains of Kansas! Though we haven't seen Dorothy or Toto, we have enjoyed the rolling hills, expansive fields and unending rows of shoulder-high corn (not as many amber waves of grain as we had expected to see in Kansas, though). In fact, we're enjoying the drive so much we've decided to press on farther than our original intended destination at the kids' urging. Either they really love the car, or they just want some more DVD time. We said goodbye to our family in St. Louis this morning and headed over to Kansas City to watch the Royals play (and unfortunately lose to) the Detroit Tigers. The visit enabled Todd to add one more entry to his already impressive list of stadiums he's visited, and gave us all a good chance to ... read more
