Day 30 - Hutchinson There are many cool things to do in Hutchinson. We could have seen the salt mines or the Cosmoshpere. Instead tony spent the morning at the Toyota dealer getting the transmission checked out while Anne and Michelle started some laundry and relaxed. Our Van was losing it's passing gear and we had transmission overheat code come up yesterday. Those are two very bad things to have happen when heading into the mountains. Turns out the transmission had been overfilled and needed a flush. Once that was taken care of we headed out to explore Hutchinson. We found a great cafe in an old firehouse for lunch and afterwards looked around the shops in downtown Hutchinson. In the afternoon we got a personalized tour of the dairy plant where Matt works as the ... read more

Day 29 - Maysville to Hutchinson An early start had us on the road and headed into Kansas. After passing by St. Louis we started to notice that the road and surroundings were remarkably similar to the last time we were in this part of Kansas, about 12 years ago. We made it to Tony's brother's house in the mid afternoon without any problems. Matt and Abby and their daughters moved to Hutchinson about a year ago. Unfortunately the girls were off visiting with their grandparents so we missed them on this trip. We went out to dinner at a restaurant called Carriage Crossings in the nearby town of Yoder. The town was originally a Amish settlement and still has a sizable Amish population. The restaurant serves traditional Midwestern meals and even has a family style ... read more

Kurt drove us to Hutchinson where we entered the Cosmosphere to be greeted by a stealth bomber, a B15 and a space shuttle suspended high overhead in the entry foyer. Nearby in the kids zone was an activity table for children to make folded rockets - several of which were adorning the stealth bomber. They also had a model shuttle complete with lego astronauts. I wanted to take it home for the grandkids but I doubted it would fit in the ... read more

The day started at the Moon Marble Company Store. Not a lot to see here other than a ton of marbles of all colors and sizes. They also sell a bunch of other junk that your kids will want you to buy. The cool thing is that they have a Marble artist demonstrate how to make a marble. TRUCKHENGE Well I'm not so sure it's really a Henge... to me a henge is a grouping of objects displayed in a circular fashion. A henge should also have objects placed horizontally between two or more vertical objects. to me this is an artistic display of objects. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Truckhenge and I think it is very well done, I just wouldn't use the word Henge. S... read more

hi! my sister just got back from Quito, Ecuador, and sent out a bulk email to let people know she was home. Well, I've been back from Africa for about two months, so I guess it's about time I do the same, just in case anyone thinks I'm still abroad. And here's some more pictures!... read more
