I then made a small detour into the business section of Goodland, Kansas. They have a very large painting of Van Gogh's sunflowers on a giant easel in a small park. The Big Easel Project began in 1996 when an artist and teacher in Canada, Cameron Cross, decided an enlarged hand painted reproduction of one of Vincent van Gogh's sunflower paintings, a public domain painting, resting on an enormous easel would make an appropriate landmark for the city that he lived in. He eventually created 7 of them and this is the only one in America. I had been there before, but no one was around to take my picture. This time two girls from Seattle who were heading back to college at IU in Bloomington were taking a lunch break on the bench infront of the easel. I chatted with them while taking pictures and asked them to take mine and then I took a picture of them with their camera.
